Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Confirms New UK Studio Working on "High Quality Morpheus Games"

Sony has established a new UK studio to focus on development for its upcoming PlayStation 4 virtual reality headset Project Morpheus, the corporation has confirmed to GameSpot.

A number of job postings for what Sony is calling its North West Studio appeared on the Sony Computer Entertainment careers page on Tuesday. The corporation has since explained to GameSpot that the team will include staff from Motorstorm and Driveclub developer Evolution Studios, who will work on "high quality experiences" for the VR headset.

"We are dedicated to producing high quality experiences for Project Morpheus, and the creation of this studio allows us to build a small but highly experienced team who can utilise their skills to showcase this exciting new immersive technology," said a Sony spokesperson.

"We always look to relocate staff throughout the studios, and this is no exception. The new team will be made up of a combination of Evolution staff members and new talent, with a focus on hiring the most highly experienced team possible."

"We haven't talked about these games as yet. We are waiting for the right time. Starting probably at E3, we will start to show the actual games," he said.

So I guess they are making a number of smaller games to help show off the system, rather than anything fully fledged. And one of those games is a racer.

I wonder what showing games at E3 means. I would hope/guess it means a "Hey, we have some new games to show you on Morpheus, come find us on the conference floor after the show." Rather than spending much time on the conference on this subject, can't imagine that would be the best way to sell VR.

I'm assuming the Evolution people are the ones that were let go from the studio (or at least part of those)? If so, good for them. Not really too interested in Morpheus atm, is likely going to be too expensive to be worth it, still VR seems to be the way gaming is moving so always good to be prepared for that.

Well, I'm glad to be wrong on this one.

Still, Studio Liverpool would've been perfect for this. They did some technical wizardry with WipEout HD Fury.

:(

Hope they'll support it good cause Lets face it.. Sony's Move support was pretty horrible.. They need a killer game like WiiSports

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Good that the people let go off Evolution are landing in this studio.

My guess is that North West is making a Kim Kardashian VR game - A GTA V killer!

good to see they made a studio to make games for VR instead of grabbing already existing studios to make games for it, i prefer that than seeing studios like Guerrilla games wasting time in what many people will consider a gimmick

I think thats the best way to go, more emphasis on instant wow factor, hopefully more polish overall and low entry price/low risk.

I think the full experiences we'll get will likely  be last gen or old games adapted to fit VR+GT7. I'd love to see the original Bioshock remastered for morpheus

I like this approach.
