Forums - Sony Discussion - Edit: GT to not appear at E3? Next GT to be called Gran Turismo Sport?

I don't know why people think PS3 GTs are lacking.
GT5 had a horrible hub to choose things, but was a nice game and GT6 is no short of a espetacular game as other GTs were to their gen, maybe because people didn't payed much atention to 6 because of it's horrible launch date but the game is amazing, I honestly hadn't had as near as much fun as I still do with GT6 in other racing game for a really long time.

Also I hope GT doesn't drop the number, 'cause it already passed the stage were it can be harmful as it would look too crowded of a franchise and now the numbers are actually a sign of how strong the franchise is, just like MK8 or FF15. No problem with it being called GT7: Sport though.

It was way too easy to get all the cars in GT5 especially since I bought the XL version and started the game with a Red Bull car.  GT6 is way too much of a grind to get all the cars plus most of the new cars in the game I already used in other racing games so in the long run I will not play it nearly as much as GT5 and all the DLC cars have been underwhelming I would have prefered some more real new or classic cars or real prototype cars like the 1962 Ford Mustang I for example (even though its more likely that car will show up first in FM6).

If it is called GT Sport, I think it may be a new way of saying prologue to buy more time for a full GT7 release.

They've already said that they aren't doing a prologue for the next GT game. They also said they are moving away from numbered games.

I like it, sounds good.

However, they could take an approach where rather than 1 huge game, they release bite size chunks in specific disciplines or something that all combine?

GT Sport sounds like it could be a motorsports (BTCC etc.) specific one like GRID Autosport was.

Then they could do GT Rally, GT Street, GT Classic etc. for them all to combine into the huge usual Gran Turismo?

A fantastic game with 10+M on ps3 and people still want to bash gt5... Even gt6 was very good. So I'm quite satisfied if they keep the course, anyway I'm mostly certain PD will make a great game.

God, I hope not. AAA games like GT and FF are just getting ridiculous with how long they take to release.

I don't undertand games released every year.

2 main GT games per generation is enough.

Yeah sure. If you move the goal posts, it doesn't sound so bad. But the gap between GT4 and GT5 was 6 freakin' years lol. I mean, think about it. If you bought GT4 at launch when you were a freshman in high school, you wouldnt have seen a new release until your sophmore year in college lol. That's not acceptable imo.

Not as if there weren't plenty of alternatives :p

When you think about sales, yes it was a failure, compared to previous versions of the game. I believe is the least sold GT.

But in my opinion it was a terrific game, fixing most of the problems with GT5. Way superior game.

It is the second best GT game, just behind GT4. Why? Because GT4 had Seattle Circuit...

Nobody knows the bold for sure... no data was released.

In Japan for example it is close to reach GT5... needs about 200k.

Edit - I guess PD will announce and update sale when the franchise reaches 80m... if that happens before the next GT game then GT6 could be sold on pair or better than GT1 (9.37m).

9M is waiting for too much, it'll hardly happen, more like 7M, would still be the least sold main GT game but it would be still be very solid numbers.

7M? Thats 100% impossible, the game has sold only around 3M based on VGchartz. Even considering that it might lack digital sales and VGC is not totally updated, it wont even reach 4M. It is indeed a failure compared to previous games when talking about sales. As for the game itself, it is amazing, way superior to 5. It just lacks seattle circuit

I think you are here time enough to know VGChartz SW numbers means absolutely nothing.
It still tracks The Last of Us at 5.5M, when it was announced officially it crossed 7M sales 1 year ago, when it was around 4M here as well.
So no, 7M is not impossible to GT6 at all. It was still high in PSN charts last year, in both USA and specially in Europe.

To be honest, I doubt it is far from 6M right now. Also, I'll do a test with the next Vision GT update, as I saw a lot of people were still doing it in the last one, and Ethomaz also noticed the same, I'll wait for the last day of the Peugeot event and will join and do a lap as horrible as I can so that I can rank as low as possible and see how many people did the event. Last time I did it in the middle of the event and slow (I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't leave the track and have to start again) and I ranked at ~150K. I'm pretty sure it'll have at least the double of the rank I got there.
Considering it's a last gen game over a year and a half and if it still have 300K active players as I suspect I doubt it sits anything near as 3M as VGChartz says, but well over it, well over it.

You have some really good valid points, but I still think 7M is impossible, I stick with 5M tops.

I guess we will never know unless sony releases the numbers. Even with 5M, I believe the game was highly profitable since probably they used a lot of programming and data from GT5.

I believe the release of GT7 will tell us where the franchise sits now

Sounds like they may be going the Forza Horizon route, which I'll love and buy.

Edit: I don't care for the simulation racing games, boring imo. Hope they do a more arcade type racing game for Gran Turismo. Like I said, I'd buy it.
