Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft’s Phil Spencer Admits the Kinect Isn’t Really That Useful For Core Games

At least there is still PS Move for hardcore fun. In fact I wouldn't even call anyone more than a casual without them beating Kenji.

And dare I say it MS will come to the same realisation with Hololens a few years down the track. Fortunately Hololens has great applicability and potential outside of gaming so it will be a general success as a UI, just not so much in gaming.

yes yes.  hololens could be amazing but MS better understand games is not the leading space for that tech. if they push hololens into the xbox space first they will kill the technology before it ever gets a chance.

But it sure brought Money on x360 and you wanted to milk more customer with "it's integral to x1 experience". If it wasn't for the backlash you would still do it.

That statement can be applied to basically anything that is 180'd. Backlash lets you know people don't like it.

People's enjoyment of something has nothing to do with its necessity. I hate wearing clip-shoes for cycling, since they are uncomfortable to me, but they are necessary if you want to ride efficiently. On the flip side, even if the XBOne didn't receive backlash for Kinect being packed in, and people enjoyed using the camera, Kinect still wouldn't be integral for core gaming.

People enjoy 3D, doesn't mean 3D is necessary for movies.

But you are still one of the best boss ever. :)

Funny. Kinect pushed the 360 to great heights, only to hold the x1 back years later.

Well I'd own a Kinect for more casual/Eyetoy like games, thats what its good for.

I mean the fact that they felt the need to switch Ryse from a Kinect game to a controller game should tell you everything...

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

Newsflash: Pope admits that the Earth is round!

Just the fact that it took Microsoft 5 years and a failed console launch to realize and admit what everybody else figured out sometime in 2011 just speaks volumes about ineptness of their leadership.

Lucky them they still have Bill Gates Windows legacy to fall back on, as the rest of the company is playing "follow the leader" for quite a while.

Yeah sure and that's why their profits in their cloud part are soaring and they are one of the biggest and best providers of cloud technology. Add to that they dare to take risks with new tech like hololens and your statement becomes really false.

You should check your facts sometimes instead of just posting your usual msft hate

Well, that's something that many of us have discerned on our own years and years ago.

Save your breath, but XBO certainly isnt a failure, in actuality its Microsoft's fasting selling console ever.  As for leadership, Phil Spencer is showing great leadership here, knowing that you cant push Kinect into everything.  Instead of pushing it blindly by sticking in things that doesnt work you only use it where it does work (Fantasia, Kinect Sports, etc).  He has shown a primary focus on core games so far being the Xbox Leader which is great moving on from what we got the final few year of Mattrick

But yeah W10, Cloud, and Hololense looks great i agree with you.
