Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I'd consider TLOU the 7th gens' Resident Evil 4. Third person, survival horror, escort mission, crafting, infected and both use fine-tuned gameplay mechanics from existing games and are as polished as their hardware allows them.

Shouldn't that be The Evil Within, though? Third person, survival horror, escort mission with an actually killable escort, crafting, infected, nasty and imposing bosses and fine-tuned gameplay mechanics from existing games.

Oh, so now it's Game of the generation? Didn't know that.

I don't see why not. It even tops many publications gotgs. To me I'd probably place it behind Dark Souls maybe Demon's Souls too.

It is an excellent game, but to be called game of the generation, you need some groundbreaking mechanics. Some revolution. Do you see revolution in TLOU? I don't know, Game of the Generation tallies on 7-8 years, this is pretty big deal. I could see Portal 2 or Galaxy being above this one, although I don't want to piss off someone with this. IT is absolutely in the top 5 best games of last gen.

I agree, it was a great game. But not the full package, nice story, decent gameplay, challenging, great graphics. But did nothing severely groundbreaking, and the lack of a great soundtrack was annoying as well.

I personnally never experienced such a strong story, with such strong characters, with such an amazing OST, with such a great atmosphere and with such good graphics.
And I had a blast playing it. I spent an entire night playing it when it released. Doesn't happen often.

Objectively, the game barely have flaws.
But subectively, yes, of course not everyone will like it.
I really don't like GTA for example, I get bored VERY easily. Same goes for Gears Of War or God Of War. But does this mean these games aren't masterpieces ? Nah. They absolutely are. Just not my cup of tea.

2001 A Space Odissey is an absolute masterpiece, yet a lot of people didn't like it. It's not about how some like it or not, it's about how well made it is.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

I thought the game was great (crafting, story graphics), but yeah it did have some less than grear moments. As many people have already mentioned, it really is immersion breaking when Elli is clearly in the line of site of an enemy and they don't see her. I don't think this is 'bad' AI, I think it was a design decision, but it feels really weird.

I'd also like to give a shout out to the MP, its amazing!

Finally, IMO Red Dead Redemption gets my vote for best game last gen *fingers crossed for rdr2 announcement soon*

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

the game was good but, was severely overrated. Good gameplay, bad story, characters were subpar, atmosphere was good. A 8/10 for me at best.
just my opinion

I can understand why some people wouldn't call TLoU GoTG but personally I felt this game was a great overall experience. The story, atmosphere, character development/ interactions, crafting, linearity with some open world areas, scavenging, upgrade system. It doesn't necessarily have any aspect that stands out alone but as a complete package this game is definitely one of the best games I've ever played. The boss fight in which you control Ellie is remarkable: one of the best boss fights, side - missions included, that I've ever encountered. I appreciated the gameplay more after my second run - through on PS4 and with some online matches under my belt.

Indeed truthfully, good sire!

If you consider The Last of Us's story and characters poor what would you consider to be good?

Well, whatever you like; you are of course entitled to your own opinion...so it's okay. But I don't see the point why you had the feeling to open a new thread.

Still, I will put in my two cents to this: Soundtrack was actually the one and only piece of music I remember from a game in the last couple of years. You always hear almost the same music especially in AAA games nowadays. And The Last of Us' music was contrary to that finally a breath of fresh air with unusual and interesting sounds. Not too loud, just playing in the background without being obtrusive...as it should be.

Talking about gameplay without mentioning the melee combat system?! :-O I mean...the countless(!) ways of beating somebody down is staggering for a 3rd person/adventure game. I for myself have yet to see such an extensive melee combat system in a non-fighting/beat 'em up game. Furthermore, the shooting mechanics were finally made believable. e.g. the impact caused by a bullet on all characters including the player's character is terrific.

I don't really know what to say regarding the story. But yeah, everybody has its own taste. I have to say that I waited many years for such a story. FINALLY we saw the potential of video games and got a mature, touching, intelligent and though-provoking story with believable, human-like characters.

These were just some of the many great things in The Last of Us that I personally haven't seen in other games.
