Forums - Sony Discussion - The Last of Us is a good game…nothing more, nothing less

I was going to make a thread similar to this later on this week. I haven't finished the game yet, but so far, I agree with you. It's a good game no doubt, but imo, it's nowhere near the 10/10 game of the generation some of the players & reviewers have been hyping it to be.

Let me start by saying the opening is fantastic - one of the best openings I've played. The atmosphere, the sense of danger, the emotion is all there. Graphics is also pretty great.

Gameplay-wise, it's alright, but I do have a few complaints about it mainly the AI and the ordinary infected. The normal infected provide no threat whatsoever; you can just hand-to-hand combat them to death. It takes away a lot of the atmosphere and sense of danger from it. The clickers are the only ones that do provide a threat, but after unlocking a certain upgrade, they don't proved a threat. You can just breeze through certain sections meeleing which also makes it a kind of boring. Better than sneaking around I suppose.

As for the AI, it's kind of dumb at times. In one occasion, a soldier saw me choking one of his buddies, and he runs back and takes cover. This action gave me enough time to sneak into the adjacent room, go around and get behind him, giving me the chance to kill him.

Story & characters are nothing to write home about.

...What? Was I supposed to have a bad time while playing?

This thread will go on for a while and it will be obvious as to who has what side on this debate.
I'm with you on this one, incredibly well done game that has production values that hadnt really been seen before it. However I found the actual gameplay kind of average and there were plenty of moments in the game where there was nothing happening except Ellie and Joel, or others, talking to cover it up

I wont get upset over your opinion.

For example I played both borderlands and bioshock. I did not finish those games. I disliked them almost as much as GTA4. For the record I love mario. Just not enough to pay hundreds of pounds on a console for it. I cant ruen down a gritty zelda game though. mmmmmm

The gameplay is solid, but nothing out of the ordinary and in some cases…kind of boring if I'm being honest. Maybe is just me that I tend to like more action type shooters like Borderlands or Bioshock, but in the Last of Us there was nothing that made me say: "Wow, this is really fun to play!". It was good, and definitely enough to keep me playing till the end. The crafting system was also very good, and aside from the smoke bombs, I found all items to be useful (which is something games tend to lack).

 isnt meant to be fun

Then what is the point of a shooter/stealth game?

If I wanted to play something that isn't fun, but has a good story, I would play a Visual novel.

I agree, this is no doubt one of the best playstation games I played but there isn't really anything significant that sets it apart from other games.

All these critics giving it a 10/10 and including it in their GOTG lists are idiots.

But I would still like to know your suggestions for a "real" GOTG.

At this moment, I think Dark Souls or Bioshock Infinite have my vote.
