Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Are the Splatoon DLC maps already finished (& on disc) ?

Yo guys, i traced the discussion about the small splatoon launch content and dlcs the past days and just thought about it.

In my opinion it could be pretty realistic that some/most of the dlc content is already finished and maybe even on the disc.

Heres why:

1.Creating maps really doesnt take alot time. If you keep in mind that there are many levels in the singleplayer campaign and that some of the launch maps are already shown on e3 2014 its very unrealistic that nintendo just made 5 maps in 1 year. I did some counter strike maps on myself some years ago using hammer editor, and creating such a map for a professional developer/team is nothing that would take alot time. You can also compare it to mario kart 8. The MK8 tracks are way bigger then the splatoon maps and graphical on a similar level. They did 48 tracks so far. So i dont think they werent able to make more then 5 splatoon maps.

2. File Size. The Splatoon file size just got increased. Last month it was 1,8 GB - but its 2,3 GB now. So they defenitive add something 500mb big to splatoon.

3. In scandinavia nintendo is releasing a white 8GB Wii u + Spaltoon bundle. The 8Gb basic wii u got almost no storage left for dlcs and co. If they game would really rely on ALOT downloadable content it wouldnt make any sense to sell it combines with the 8gb version. Many people would get pissed if they wouldnt be able to download the whole game some month after release

In my opinion nintendo already has much more maps then just 5 finished for the game. I guess the reason they  release the other maps later is just to keep the game alive for longer period of time and make it easier for new gamers to get "warm with the game".

They probl noticed how well mk8 is doing (playtime and sales). Mk8 sold a good number of games over a long time. I guess they want to do something similar to splatoon. They dont have the possibilites to bring games frequently to the wii u, so they try to extend the ones they have.

They could be already finished, but I doubt they would be disc-locked. Games like Mario Party Wold Tour had day 1 DLC, but you still had to download the content.

Yea, i just came to know about such a bundle yesterday. Seems very intersting since you are left with about 3 GB after the OS takes most of the available space. Either some of the dlc is on disc or the collection of maps is quite compressed in size.

Splatzones is on disc so yeah probably. Seems pointless and unorthodox, but like you said they're trying to enhance the game's longevity and are afraid the playerbase might not be big enough to support everything at once.

My thoughts exactly.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

They could just be reserving space for it, even if it's not there quite yet? Like a placeholder?

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

They could possibly be on there, but it'll be free dlc after launch to fine tune the content. However I'm certain there'll be some paid DLC as well.

I don´t care to be honest.

I don't think discs work that way.

Seems like OP is asking about hard drive storage, not because of the stigma of "on-disc DLC."

Idk, it doesn't make much sense to me if they are on disc... The free DLC will be over a period of 2 months right? I doubt it would have made that much of a difference in terms of longevity. On top of that, they are losing some potential review points by doing so since the reviewers won't be able to play those maps while doing the reviews so I really doubt it

We will see though since it will depend on the download size of the DLC
