Forums - Gaming Discussion - Prediction: A stronger Wii U would have won this generation

I think Nintendo should have gone with a POWER8 CPU. Maybe the porting would be a bit more difficult, but it would stomp all over the Xbox One and PS4.

No. A powerful Nintendo console might have had a better chance to win the gen, but not a more powerful WiiU.

First, I doubt third parties would have supported Nintendo as well as the other two. Most of 3rd party on Nintendo's systems come from japanese developers, that are reducing their software output on home consoles in exchange of mobile. And even if they do, the 3DS would have taken priority, as their main market, Japan, became handheld-centric. I doubt a more powerful WiiU would have convinced western studios: Ubisoft tried and went away, Activision failed with CoD sales, and EA outright boycotted the system due to Origin. If the WiiU couldn't get a port of the PS360 version of GTA V or Minecraft, a more powerful system wouldn't have gotten it either.

Second, most non-Nintendo developers don't know what to do with the Gamepad. Also, a more powerful WiiU would have been the most expensive system of the gen. The gamepad is really expensive, I'm sure it's the thing that is making Nintendo unable to "do a GCube" and making the system just 99€.

Only a couple of Nintendo titles really need power. Only XCX and ZeldaU (and maybe others in the future) wouldn't have been possible on the Wii (granted, not in HD and some specs adapted, but they would have been possible and still playable). Nintendo won't go for the maximum specs on home console anymore, they don't need it, 3rd party needs it. And, like I said, 3rd party doesn't follow Nintendo as they do with PS or XBox.

Well i dont think that would happen. With simoultanos release of all 3 console and similar hardware and power im sure many more third party would try to publish on wii u. The reason they didnt do it is mainly because it was very very forseeable that the wii u could fail. There were alot negative opinions about the wii u and its weak hardware out there before it gots released (not much better then xbox360/ps3 -> coregames already got these systems and have no reason to get a wii u-> most third partys do aim on core gamers, so if your audience is probl not on the system you dont want to bring your game for it.)

With stronger hardware im pretty sure this wouldnt be the case.

BTW: they probl shouldnt do the gamepad stuff at all, but just the pro controller or maybe even stick to the wii motes.

So why hasnt gamecube won before? People overvalue Nintendos exclusives

The biggest problem is the name and the bad marketing.

Not the price
Not the games
Not the power

Prediction: if Superman were real, the ocean (Pacific) would be made of honey.

That's not a prediction...

^^^And with that, I leave.

Power was the least of the Wii U's concerns. The major problems were that

1) Nintendo has never been good at gathering third party support, and
2) The Wii U's unique gamepad display made it hard for third party developers to develop for.

The result is that no one besides Nintendo developed for it and you can't sell a console with one studio alone. Power was never a significant issue; it's something forum nerds like us debate over, but is basically immaterial for the rest of the gaming world.

Main reason
1. it was purple (sooooo uncool for kids. Why not make it pink?)

Also:

2. No DVDs (ps2 gave u dvd-player + console combines)

3. You cant compare the gamecube times to todays times. Now a days most games are multiplat and alot more expensive to make. GC/Ps2/xbox times there wernt that many multiplat titles. It was way more about exclusives.

power is the reason the games wont get released. Already explained.
