Forums - PC Discussion - Oculus Rift PC specs announced

"Configuration will be held for the lifetime of the Rift and should drop in price over time.

Oculus VR has revealed the recommended computer specifications required to run its Rift headset and has promised these specs will hold throughout the lifetime of the headset.

  • NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
  • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
  • 8GB+ RAM

Apart from the above, the Rift will also require:

  • Windows 7 SP1 or newer
  • 2x USB 3.0 ports
  • HDMI 1.3 video output supporting a 297MHz clock via a direct output architecture

"The goal is for all Rift games and applications to deliver a great experience on this configuration by default. We believe this 'it just works' experience will be fundamental to VR's success, given that an underperforming system will fail to deliver comfortable presence," said chief architect Atman Binstock.

"The recommended spec will stay constant over the lifetime of the Rift. As the equivalent-performance hardware becomes less expensive, more users will have systems capable of the full Rift experience. Developers, in turn, can rely on Rift users having these modern machines, allowing them to optimize their game for a known target, simplifying development."

Those aren't specs for the rift headset, those are the pc requirements...

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

A little on the high end but makes sense. Waifu sims, here I cum

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Wow that's higher on both gpu and cpu than I was expecting.....
But surely it's highly dependent on the software I don't know how they can give out standard spec requirements like that.

Probably should rename the title to "Oculus Rift System Requirements". Came here for specs and was disappointed.

OT: Good that they're aiming high. There would be nothing worse for them than people having bad first impressions due to their own weak hardware.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I thought something else, misleading title.

Well not for me, not have enough good pc... even if i can run every game at max.... somewhat stupid :p

So those are the specs to make it work, but to do what? To use it as a regular PC monitor to watch your facebook account?

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Like others have said those are pretty much PC specs (unless you can fit a 970 between the eyes), good high specs at that which means that to the book those specs should be bale to perform quite well for the headset's lifespan, though they aren't exactly the average day specs I would imagine the parts getting cheaper a lot sooner than expected.

Still the age of 3D waifus is upon us.
