And Nintendo wouldn't need a lot of work to make their controllers work for PC, given that they already use bluetooth.

But the thing is that Nintendo will still be Nintendo, and with that I mean that they won't go with Steam but rather create their own service to keep having 100% control of their games.

I'd really like to see them make use of the Wii U gamepad on PC and maybe future devices of theirs, I can definitely see them making their own version of Steam which would be nice to have some firm competition against Valve (force them a bit more to clean up a bit) and maybe Nintendo could even do their own version of Steam sales and become renowned for it.

I'd love if they could make the GamePad work on PC, to play both WiiU games ported to PC but also to take advantage of the Off-TV (I guess Off-PC then) gameplay as Nvidia does with its Shield.

In regards to compete with Steam, I doubt they'd be able to do it. Other publishers that are a lot more known in the PC space like Ubisoft and EA or good services like GoG have failed to do that, so a newcommer like Nintendo would have a lot more troubles to do that.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Then most gamers would own a gaming PC probably.

I'll start this by saying I doubt this would ever happen. I'll go a step further and say I'm 100% this won't even have a CHANCE of happening within the next 5-7 years (NX releasing probably in 2017 would imply this).

What I'm about to ask is simply for 1) our entertainment and 2) something that COULD happen WAAAY down the line.

What if Nintendo went pc exclusive? What if they made a deal with Steam to 1) include all their games (old and new) and 2) create controllers that work on pcs (you could use any future Nintendo controller still)?

Here is the main question: If Nintendo went pc exclusive, would you even bother buying a dedicated console?

Well, then I'd be playing PC exclusively

@bolded: Why bother? Just get the eShop to PC in that scenario and operate in an independent way similar to GOG (exept the DRM-free approach, don't think that will come with Nintendo). Steam may still be optional, but not a requirement.

Yeah, I really don't think Nintendo would ever go PC only because PC gaming is very very niche in Japan, like it almost has no expression in sales whatsoever. Going to other consoles is probably a no-no as well because Ninty is too stubborn and proud to do so.
Last but not least, there's the smartphone devices that is most likely what is going to happen. Good luck with that, Nintendo fans.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

I'd game on PC even more than I already which (which is a lot as its my main platform of choice).

I'd probably still play a bit of playstation for certain exclusives and genres.

I'll suggest something even more "absurd". They'll do both, consoles and PCs.

We know already AMD is developing the NX chip. The "core" of the next console could hypotetically be just a cheap SoC that can be integrated into selected AMD GPUs.
You'll still have an affordable console for kids/families and AMD videocards for enthusiasts.
Nintendo could expand their audience and AMD could get exclusive games for their video cards, it's a win-win :P

Put it this way... every PS and Xbox fan currently ignoring the wii U and PC, would continue to ignore them.

They would never go PC exclusive anyway, theres nothing in it for them.

They might sell more copies, but they would be selling at a significantly lower price. And since they are not very online focused, they will be a greater target for pirates.

I already game mostly on PC. I'm not sure how they would keep the level of quality as high as it is without dedicated hardware, but no I wouldn't buy dedicated hardware anymore.

You realize more families have computers than gaming devices right? Nintendo's hardware has always been drastically behind even mid ranged pc's. Chances are computers from 2009 could probably play Wii U games just fine. This would eliminate an ADDITIONAL cost, not make them purchase a computer (as they already would have one).

You know that a family computer isn't running Wii U games, right? Most families aren't buying even mid range PCs. Drastically behind is an overstatement when compared to the average PC in the average house. You know the types of games that run on every computer? Minecraft. Not Mario Kart 8, and definitely not something more demanding, which is what you'd get from a Nintendo-made PC game. And Mac. And Linux.

It wouldn't eliminate anything, because the games wouldn't sell. By the toy, buy the games. That's what works. PCs that aren't gaming PCs aren't cutting it, and there are exponentially less of those out there.

I garuntee you there are at least 4x the amount of PC's in the world that could run games as there are Wii U's, probably a massive amount more than that. More families have pc's of mid range or higher quality than you think. The Wii U has old tech ( I love it still, though). You act as if 75% of Europe and North America has computers built 16 years ago running windows 98 lol. If a computer is good enough to run windows 7/8/10, it most certainly has the specs to run a Wii U game (which requires less than 2 gigs of ram to do).

Last gen I started being a Wii+Xbox360 gamer and ended up being a Wii+PC gamer. This gen I've been a PC+WiiU gamer. So if Nintendo went for PC, I wouldn't have to buy any more consoles.

But the thing is that Nintendo will still be Nintendo, and with that I mean that they won't go with Steam but rather create their own service to keep having 100% control of their games.

I'd be fine with an eshop app on computers :)
