Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So Why is the Real Reason WiiU Failed?

Think I've seen threads like these before....

Biggest reason is the failed attempt to get the vast majority of Wii owners (casuals) to buy their new system. Those didn't go on and bought a PS4 or X1, no they either stopped playing altogether because they became bored after the gen or switched to mobile or social games.
The WiiU userbase IS the core Nintendo userbase for the most part. Any future Nintendo console that doesn't try to acquire customers outside the usual gamer base will suffer the same as the WiiU. It's probably easier to get those former Wii users back than trying to directly compete with Microsoft and Sony over the existing console owners.

Too expensive for such low end hardware, controller most people haven't liked at all and no third party support (this comes due to Nintendo's close minded behavior).

It's a product consumers don't want. Simple as that.

People don't want it isn't an answer, why don't people want it? That's what the OP wants to know.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Best system on the market, why wouldn't you want it!

I think because there's no room for 3 home consoles and people saw it as a dated/childish device, reinforced by the apparent lack or bad advertising made by Nintendo themselves. The majority of the kids these days will play mostly at smartphones the more childish stuff while another part prefers to play COD and things like that.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

Kids like playing cod lol

The key reason is image and marketing.

Does call of duty and co sell good because of the great games? No. They sell because its cool to play call of duty any everybody else in class does it.
But playing mario isnt really cool, right? Even if every critics on the internet gave mario a way better score, its just not cool and wont sell.

I also doubt that hardware is a to big issue. Xbox one and PS4 arnt that powerfull either and the wii u games are still looking good.

I know many many people who own all 3 consoles and most say, the wii u is their favourite. Its really nothing about bad quality, just bad marketing.

High price at launch, game droughts, confusion regarding name, no third party support,

I like the tablet controller, but those controllers cost a lot. apperently it costs around 140 to order a replacement one from nintendo. imagine if the wii u was 100 dollars cheaper?

People still believe that the weak hardware is the problem? my god. How many big 3rd party titles from november 2013 till now are available for last gen consoles?
Nintendo releasing a console in the same power level of the ps4 and x1 would work so well, just like when they released the gamecube

The market has changed compared to before...even Xbox and GameCube sold comparably close before.. But wii u will soon be in the dust due to Xbox's appeal and sales in western markets.. If the market hadn't changed then your theory might have some weight but nowadays power matters too a lot of gamers..and western developers like power over the dying Japanese developers
