Did you read the OP? That was by far the least important reason given.

It may be the 'least important' reason for this thread (not knocking you) but would this thread exist if it wasn't for Aprils results? Be honest :)

It is part of it. Last year, there were months where the Destiny bundle was selling well on Amazon, there were no exlcusives on either side, and no price changes. PS4 won all of those months, but this year in the same situation, X1 won a month. So without big software, they are clearly closer together than last year, so I don't think PS4's lead will be as big as last years. So this thread is partly that, partly another PS4 exclusive slipping to next year, and partly the advantages X1 already seems to have for the holidays

But as far as I'm aware, the gap between the consoles if bigger this year (at this point) than it was last year. I'm sure I read that somewhere.

I see XBO taking it if there is no unexpected change for the PS4 (i.e. $100 price drop etc. or a huge surprise announcement for Q4 at E3) as the PS4 just can't compete with XBO in the US when Halo hits.

I'm sure it is. But PS4 scored good wins in Septmebr and October, 254k and 129k respectively, and I don't think that will happen this year. So going into November and December, where I think X1 will win big, the gap won't be too different to what it is now.

But like I said, I think PS4 will still lead by the end of the year. I'm just interested in how other people see it going

price> exclusives
seriously a 350 dollar ps4 will be killer , or if they wanna really compete with MS a 300 dollar one will be crazy
it also sems ps4 is cheaper to make than xbox so i think its prices will come down faster

Ok, fair enough. I think the gap shrink by less this year than last but it's only speculation on my part and you could be right.

XBO will win 2015, but the PS4 will still be slightly ahead. Batman then MGS should make it a 1m gap before Halo 5 releases, and they've got Battlefront to reduce the gap in the holiday months enough that MS won't sell 1 million more I think, especially not if Sony has BO3 marketing rights, although I doubt it.

Who knows, maybe...? Depends on what Sony has for the rest of the year, and seeing as they're not concerned for the holidays, it won't be easy.

I think that if Sony does nothing the Xbox One will narrow the gap between the two consoles in America significantly during the holiday period.

I think that Sony is waiting for the perfect opportunity to cut the price of the PS4 and will likely announce something significant at this year's E3.

However, Sony will likely perform much better next year with the Ratchet and Clank remaster and Uncharted 4.

With X1's surprise, albeit slender, victory in April's NPD, and another PS4 exclusive slipping into next year, it is looking more possible than ever that Xbox could be the 8th gen home console leader by the end of 2015 in the US.

Right now, the gap stands at 700k. In November and December last year, X1 cut the gap by 625k. This year, as well as no doubt having some very appealing bundles in November and December, MS have Halo 5 in October as well. So it seems to me that X1 is a clear favourite to win the last three months of the year as things stand.

In the meantime, PS4 has a Batman bundle, which should lead to a win in June NPD. They also have marketing deals for big titles coming later in the year, such as MGSV, Battlefront and possibly Black Ops III. And maybe they will announce a AAA game at E3 that is scheduled for later this year, although if this is the case it will most likely be a new IP, which is always tricky to launch in the holiday window. PS4 will almost certainly have a price drop as well, and given that it will be the consoles' first, will lead to a big boost in sales, even if it is only $50.

Right now, I still think PS4 will lead US by the end of the year. But I think X1 will win big in the last three months of the year, even against a PS4 price cut, and the gap will be small by the end of the year, around 200-300k.

What do you think?

You just gave the reasons why PS4 will win the last months of the year.
