Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Francis RAGES Wave 4 Amibo, Talks Business, Why Nindendo Is Failing

Before the amiibos came out I KNEW Nintendo would understock them and give rise to ridiculous scalpers and resellers.

Nintendo is so predictable, these are just $12 toys man, just produce a shit ton and give everyone the chance to play with them. But no, they had to satisfy the scalpers again like they always do.

To continue with maths:
Activision sold 175 million toys in 2½ years making their average production volume more than 6 millions a month.
Maybe this really is a strategy from Nintendo to understock?

This seems like a very reasonable guy. Amiibos are collectibles, though. That's the nature.

Nintendo have sold +10,5 million amiibos since november 2014, that is roughly six months. There are 29 different amiibos as of february 2015. Nintendo have produced, in average, more than 60,000 copies of every amiibo every month (that is 2000 handpainted toys every day - times 29 different toys). To ramp up this production to meet this unexpected demand is probably not that easy.
The U.S., market accounts for two-thirds of Amiibo sales and there is no shortage in europe (not sure about the situation in japan).

Nintendo should delay the next amiibo wave until they have the american market covered with the old waves.

Well, there didn't use to be shortages in Europe. Not with the first, or even second wave (I'm fuzzy on what entails the second/third/fourth wave). But as someone who didn't much care to pay 30€ for a Toad Amiiboo, I didn't get that one, even though I wanted it enough to pay 15€. Meta knight and Ness were sold out on preorders within hours and so were the Inklings first and second shipment on Amazon. Same goes for the Yoshi Amiibos wich I haven't seen in stock at all, since they were sold out so quickly.

Big retailers in my Area have no shortage of the likes of Mario, Link, Peach and Pikachu but thats pretty much all they carry. So while I agree that nintendo has shipped a lot of Amiibos and they initially met demand well enough in Europe, either demand is on the rise, or it's scalpers wising up and trying to resell for higher prices, because the situation is slowly getting worse here as well.

And here it comes... so predictable.

He is sold out sorry.

Clever.

Meh, its Nintendo that's losing out on money... Not my problem.

the supply in europe is okay, you can find all amiibos if you look in the right places, they arent sold out in retail

I think I saw that guy open displays of magic cards on another channel.. he ate some of the cards when he was done.

He should really take care of himself, getting that upset over such a thing cant be good for a guy of his stature.

Depends a bit on where you live, but I agree that the situation is seemingly much better here than in North america.

It's also possible that Nintendo actually wanted to produce more Amiibos but couldn't. Remember all those defective figurines when the Amiibo launched? Pretty sure that they tried to ramp up the production lines for the holiday season only to find out the molds couldn't handle that much stress.
