Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: 'No Concerns' for Holiday lineup

Sony has lots of studios, the problem isn't they are getting complacent, it's just making games is bloody hard.

Sony isn't making less games, it's just unlike their competitor they made a lot more games in the last two years of the PS3's life which they could have easily moved over to the PS4. Was it a mistake, I don't think it was in terms of supporting a console with 80m users, but it has meant they have been slow to adapt to this gen.

Of course people who think this is all just about exclusives is not looking at the bigger picture, there are enough games coming out this xmas 3rd party wise, and for many people who don't go reading internet pages, will be happy with those blockbuster games. Sure Sony will have some games, but personally i would prefer they spread them out in the year, because I like buying blockbuster games over xmas.

Sound like a Xbox fan in 2011-2013. Careful now..... ;P

It seems to me like MS lacked both quality and quantity in 7 gen. and that was one of the big reason many xbox player jumped over to playstation, because everyone knew what Sony First Party capable of in terms of pumping out games and supporting their system, and its quiet evident even this year. Since 7 gen Sony first party has delivered in terms of Variety, quality and quanitity, while MS has failed to so. Outside of Yearly Halo's Forza's what other notable IP they have delivered.

Well the good thing about Xbox fans, is that they are smart and migrated where the great games will be, that is playstation.

People went to Playstation primarily due to price early on and MS did other things that pushed consumers away. People didnt come to Sony for their mediocre 1st party games on PS4. People came to Xbox in droves when PS3 was overpriced and lacking notable games. These are facts.

PS3 had more 1st variety but most bombed. This is why Sony is producing significantly less games. They now rely on 3rd parties more than ever.

*sigh* You won't stop, will ya?

So are you telling me that most of the 1st party 360 games were blockbusters and PS3's bombed? If you do say that, then this conversation is done right here and now.

To be fair, Halo 4 outsold every PS3 exclusive combined in 2012.

I've been saying this since tbefore the PS4 came out. Sony has *never* before had a problem making enough games for the platform. They have always made more games and a more diverse library than it's competitors. Nothing has changed as far as i am concerned... but for the people who dont care about Sony's exclusives (I do because i've purchased most of them)... they do not care. From the 6-8 people who owned Xbox's last gen where I work, all but 1 own an XBO this time around.... and they generally dont care about exclusives.

That goes without saying. It's the most popular FPS shooter of all time outside of CoD. It's an established series that deserves the credit. What about the others though?! 7th gen offering from both Sony and MS 1st party wise was great, but MS was just lacking diversity in theirs. Outside of Halo and Gears, MS needed more. Yes I know Forza is a thing. Then again, so is Gran Turismo. It's a never ending debate with these games from both camps. I have a 360 and an Xbox One, so I won't miss anything.

This part is nonsense. In the first year of PS2, we got (for starters) GTA3, GT3, FFX, MGS2, Silent Hill 2, Jak and Daxter, Twisted Metal Black... the list goes on and on and on and those were all released in the first year of the console. We are now closing in on two years and PS4 doesn't even have half the quantity... or quality of full, AAA releases.

"It’s a hit-driven business. We look at our financial results of the titles, and probably three or four out of ten make money, and maybe one or two make all the money to cover the cost of the others titles."

A lot of MS developed or funded games probably flopped as well. This is why both MS and Sony pulled back on the amount of games they release.

I used to be content that having more lifetime sales then the other guy was literally more fun then who had better games. That WAS the game and it was GOTY imo :)

I imagine PS4 fans, like, the really devoted fans, feel the same way and are just content with the 3rd party games, plus the whole 1080>900p thing for good measure. I know Sony won't mind this year. Just throw in a bundle and marketing exclusivity for a few 3rd party games and they win. Case closed.

Now I see the light. I feel MS has been very good to its customers with its releases lately.

lifetime sales game?

devoted fans like myself i imagine are about generation wins like PS1,PS2,Wii and hopefully PS4,that is the only "game" you can play without consistently changing the goal posts like you seem to every year, something Xbox can't seem to manage

i'm quite happy to play 3rd party, new IP's like bloodborne, the order & driveclub with established UC4 when it drops plus all the japanese games incoming from the PS4's homeland and have the Generation win, taking a quick glance at the weekly sales the PS4 just sold over 300k for the week, lol

trust me its not bad, sony will be just as good to its customers as anyone else will be

So it's a flop because it didn't sell as much?! God Of War doesn't break records, yet it's still critically acclaimed. Also I know some of MS games bombed as well. It's not Sony's games. I do have to say this has gotten stale.

God of War makes money, surely among the most profitable IPs Sony has. You cherry picked a successful IP, try again. Something like The Order: 1886 is probably struggling to make a profit. In that article he's flat out says a lot games actually lose money.

MS games have certainly bombed. What aren't you getting? You're so defensive that you failed to read I said this, "A lot of MS developed or funded games probably flopped as well. This is why both MS and Sony pulled back on the amount of games they release."
