Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: 'No Concerns' for Holiday lineup

Sony Computer Entertainment UK has no concerns about the PS4's Christmas games line-up, despite going up against the likes of Halo 5, Forza Motorsport 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One, UK MD Fergal Gara has told MCV.

"I won't go into any detail now," said Gara. "There is plenty for gamers to get excited about already, such as Tearaway for PS4 and No Man's Sky. That's just the start of what is on the table right now. So I don't have any concerns that we will have a lack of strong software for PS4 this peak."

As for why there has been a lull in new PS4 game releases, Gara says it's about studios getting to grips with the hardware.

"My sense is that the new platforms have opened up the ambitions of developers and the capabilities of what they can achieve,
" he explained. "What has then happened since has been a bit of rushing to market and a couple of not perfect launches. That’s perhaps driven some conservatism to not overly force this and make sure we get it right - there's been an adjustment of pace.

"The good news is that the ability to stick to time lines will improve as people get experience of the hardware under their belts. I have been hearing stories from around the industry that give me assurance that developers have got a better grasp on things, so we will be in increasingly good shape."

Do they have some suprrises for E3, or are they in defense mode? You decide

From their perspective, since sales are so strong they can take their time on first party. They aren't in MSs or Nintendos position.

It's not really Sony's fault. The fact is ever since the HD era games are costing a lot more to make, not making as much money, and are just harder to make in general. During the PS2 era you can churn out triple AAA masterpieces for $10-20 million. Today that's barely above indie development costs!

This is why so many companies are gone now: THQ, Eidos, Konami, Capcom, Sega.... and a ton more.

The thing is the PS4 doesn't have to have killer app exclusives to sell. Look how it's selling now. Sony doesn't need to worry AT ALL.

Although I laughed when he said "Look! We got Tearaway and No Man's Sky!" Lmao that was embarrassing and was shocked he actually said that.

so this means Tearaway is a holiday game now? ugh... i have to wait longer for that too?

We have no concerns for software lineups because we genetically engineered a console that sustains sales on nothing but its own hardware.

We will see... there's some stuff that I'm personally looking forward to, but in terms of big/significant things it's looking rather thin at the moment.

If Sony biggest PS4 problem is a perception of few 1st party titles, they must be laughing all the way to the bank.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Sony's radio silence about what their first party developers are working on is effecting the public reception of the PS4. I'm also quite surprised that they don't realize indie games and non AAA titles don't count as exclusives.

Sony should literally have no fears. All they gotta do is point to the sign that says Best on PlayStation, say 1080p, and cash the checks. And even if something happens and MS makes some inroads to Sony's territory, they just gotta release some limited edition PS4s with some faceplates, or if things get really bad, lower the price by $50. This generation could be accomplished with no first party support whatsoever. The marketing exclusivity deals seem to have done more for Sony than releasing first party games.

Of course Sony already know that will sell more... why can be Concerns for the holidays?
