Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo and Amiibo: Creative New Collectibles with Extras, or the Worst Day 1 DLC to Date?

Amiibo. Cool figures with extras, or worst DLC ever?!

Cool collectable! The extras are nice : ) 87 63.97%

Terrible DLC practices! S... 21 15.44%

: I I'm in the middle... 28 20.59%

Total:136

If I were only interested in amiibo for their game interactions, I wouldn't own any. What they offer in most games barely qualifies as DLC.

So in my opinion, they are just cool collectibles that do some mildly interesting things with games.

You wrote a lot, but you completely forgot to mention that cards with amiibo functionality are already in the works. These will lessen the impact on people's wallets, plus scalpers won't be interested in them which in turn makes them easier to find too.

Another thing is that amiibo doesn't quite work like DLC. When you buy DLC, it's locked to your account or console (i.e. all accounts on the same console have access to the DLC). But amiibos can be borrowed and lent out at will, so if, for example, one person has a Link amiibo and ten friends with a copy of Hyrule Warriors, this single amiibo could unlock the spinner on all consoles and accounts.

SHOOT, I forgot about the cards... I'll need to update...

Don't really feel like getting into this discussion for the 100th time, but I don't see any problem with the implementation of amiibo in any game thus far. It has largely been inconsequential extras (Mario Kart), features built around amiibo (Smash), or priced into the game (Mario Party).

: ( Sorry, I've heard it mentioned several times in other threads, so I thought it was time to dedicate a space for everyone to get it out and discuss the issue.

I don't find anything wrong with the actual ideas of Amiibos as a collectable and bonus feature.

The only issues I have with them are:
- the rarity and supply of certain ones/exclusives.
- due to exclusives and rarity, some features cannot be used (ie Xenoblade because it's hard to find a Shulk Amiibo)
- cutting out a huge in-game content just for Amiibos (ie Mario Party 10)

I do believe that Nintendo are actively trying to push more of these units out. Link is now common in stores (being necessary to Hyrule Warriors) after being *RARE* for so long, along with Zelda. And I've seen Ike and Marth making a comeback (despite Marth being one of the hardest buggers to track down since Amiibo launch) in anticipation of STEAM.

I wouldn't be surprised to see an influx of Shulk Amiibo closer to the Xenoblade launch.

Updated my thread with a mention of Amiibo cards. Thanks Rol for pointing that out. I completely forgot about them....

Tbh I don't like them. Have no interest in buying them, and knowing content is being held back is a little annoying. But so far the content that they give isn't too much, so it's not too bad.

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

I have zero interest on them and I don´t feel like I´m losing anything.

Btw, good thread.

I don't care really. It is DLC. But the content is really not important. But the card versions, whenever they come out. Will fix this. I'd rather pay $20 for every amiibo card set. Than the statues.
