Forums - General Discussion - Are cable outlet's going to be a thing of the past.

I'm just wondering if cable on T.V. will soon be a thing of the past. I'm very interested in talking about this for several reason. I have cox cable and it's gone up at least $10 for the last 3 years. I've been seriously looking for alternatives to cable for along time, but don't know how to go about it. the article explains that there's been a small decline in most age demographics, but they don't seem to worried about it. there just investing in more breaking bad type drama's. Should they be worried about the decline in viewership,no matter how small it is? Will we see a future were there's no cable outlet's at all and it's just a bunch of netflix like streaming services? I've always had cable and despite the constant rate increases,I'm hesitate to change course, although i've seriously considered it. I've not one to change my routine that much as I'm bi-polar,ocd,etc,etc. So,back to my orginal question, are cable outlet's going to be a thing of the past?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Edit:all the links are broken, but search cables sales decling on google and read the top three articles,if you care to see what I'm talking about in this post. :(

Around the Network

bump

my internet comes through my cable box so i'll still need it... don't really need the TV service that goes with it.. I do like live tv so I can see some stuff i wouldn't see normally like Gordan Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares.. I do use on demand streaming services a lot but i feel i miss something like the news..

I keep coming back to cable despite streaming services. We don't watch anything live (dvr it all) yet having a limited menu served works better for us than the overwhelming amount of choices with streaming.
Weekly episodes are fine for watching tv for me. Binge watching can be fun too, yet I always end up bored after a couple episodes in a row, never get that anticipation of what's going to happen next.
Plus it works like a kind of clock or regular schedule, it's friday x is on. Some regularity in live is nice too.

Anyway the shows we usually watch are available to stream too through the same cable box, except it locks out vcr controls so you have to sit through the commercials. It's a matter of control I guess. We dvr it first so we control how we watch it. (My wife can condense a 2 hour episode of the voice into less than 15 minutes...) Streaming you're left with akward controls or no control while watching.

The kids are all into you tube and netflix though.

i'm watching Game of Thrones through HBO Go. before I'm really waiting on HBO channel under Comcast. Mostly streaming even live sports. Agree that the kids are really into youtube and netflix.

It won't die because it TV service is bundled with the internet. I have the 10 local channels + 25 mbps from Comcast for $64/month.
