Forums - PC Discussion - Tweak and modding your games

Been a while since I last made a thread and just a few hours ago a friend asked me to play Dead island with him so decided to oblige but not before tweaking the game since the PC port back in 2011 wasn't exactly a stellar one.

For me it started off with a simple trip to Youtube to find people who have already tweaked the game in a specific way that would suit what I was looking for and this guy was practically the one person that fit the profile of what I wanted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXXacDmEYFc

After watching the first few steps I just simply dragged and dropped what I wanted to tweak into notepad, adjusted the numbers to what was suggested and what I wanted and then saved them all and enabled them as "read only" so the game wouldn't overwrite the tweaks I'd made.

In the end it took me around 15 mins in total to edit all the files I wanted, I thought it would take long like I tend to with Skyrim (usually an hour if not longer modding) and I've yet to install any actual mods but this one definitely has my interest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoLadZotBuE

Game looks and performs better than it did before for me and my friend is going to tweak and mod his DI tomorrow.

Well that was my short story of a recent mod/tweaking a game, do any of you chaps have any stories of your recent/past modding/tweak experiences?, how do you find modding/tweaking in general and why do you do it? (for those that do).

I prefer to mod most PC games that make it somewhat easy, even if my version of modding is usually downloading someone else's work. It's nice to iron out the parts of the game that makes things more tedious. Examples for me include weight carry limits in the Elder Scrolls games, which serve mostly to make the game dull.

I like modding games cause how else would I get my waifu to go on a murder spree in GTA IV or have nude girls riding dragons in skyrim

I can agree on this, I do dislike the weight system in Skyrim for example and I always tend to mod it via one of the workshop or nexus mods, not removing it completely but making it so I can carry more or make the weight spells/potions last a lot longer.

I usually had a slightly hard time installing certain mods into directories years ago but now we've got mod managers like Nexus and other venues like Steam workshop that makes installing mods a complete breeze.

I'd probably say my most modded game would be Skyrim but L4D2 comes in a close second with it having reskins, textures and map mods (I like my Resident Evil map/skins).

I should have also mentioned that I mostly mod/tweak my games due to wanting to get just the right experience for having fun, sometimes I;ll download the silly zany goofy mods but I do so rarely and instead focus more on performance/textures mod/tweaks.

I'll admit I've totally gone there too a few times =P.

LOL, I love how this is a thing.

back in 2011 this had me on the floor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoLadZotBuE

It's still one of the silliest if not entertaining mods I've seen but then there's Skyrim's Macho Man Dragons or Thomas the Tank engine dragons mod =D.

I would like to develop the skills to do so. Sounds like a lot of fun, but I would need to solidify my programming knowledge even further to do so.

I particularly enjoyed the Thomas the Tank Engine Skyrim mod. Funniest stuff I've seen.

Modding is a lot of effort and work so I tend not to do so...

When I played Minecraft, I modded for the Single Player Commands since it's very useful and simple to do..
I also got English patches for VNs (if that counts as modding)
