Because there has been no compelling evidence suggesting any god(s) or other supernatural being existing in our observable universe.

There is, however, concrete evidence of things like a 4.6-billion year-old Earth, a 13.7-billion-year-old universe, evolution, and general relativity. Science provides the best, most accurate, most predictable, and most realistic explanations for phenomenon we observe. Fairy-tale books that are over 1,000 years old, do not.

Find me a scientific publication that suggests strong evidence that one or multiple gods exist, then I would consider such a possibility.

I don't care. I just spiritual peace, being comfortable with myself, and you can get that with both a religion or without it.

I have never, ever even once in my life come close to experiencing anything even partly resembling a shread of proof that there is any god, and I don't see our world as a place that any benign being would have created had it known how it would turn out.
There is simply no reason for me to believe but there are several compelling reasons to not believe.
I come from a very secular country and live in one of the only ones that is even more secular; I personally like that idea and I can't say that our societies are more decripit and immoral than others; in fact, we are ranked at the very top in the world on almost all metrics for happiness, despite the absense of religion for the majority of the population.

Because of science and common sense I guess?

Because I have no desire to close gaps for the sake of closing gaps. If there is something that I don't understand I would rather live in ignorance than claim to know the answers.


Additionally, when the alternative is to force myself into believing in tales created thousands of years ago when science had made little progress, I would rather live with the truth that our memories and perception dies along with our physical bodies. Because as tragic as the truth is, I find it even more tragic to live a life guided by fictional characters and superstitious laws.

It was never a choice since I wasn't born with religion in my genes :). So I have simply not chosen anything since there is no gods, religion is myth and science is the method we must use to understand the world.

Why wouldn't I be? We all are really. Do anyone believe in every single god there is? Of course not, that's impossible, so in a way everyone is an atheist.

There is no evidence that supports the existence of an all knowing being, and that's why it's called faith and belief. Science is the best thing that ever happened human kind, so why would we need a god when we have science?

And you can be spiritual without being religious. Religion don't have monopoly on spirituality or morality. There is nothing in religion we need any more.

That makes no sense, sorry. Atheists don't have a belief, that's the whole point.

For me, religion just never made any sense. I just think religion fills gaps in what we know until we figure ou what's actually going on.
