Nintendo has announced that they are targetting the Wii U to sell 3.4 million units between April 1 2015 and March 31, 2016. This is after having sold 3.38 million units in the past year. To me this looks like Nintendo is actually hoping that the coming year will be the peak year for the Wii U. The problem is that it took two of Nintendo's biggest franchises to sell 3.38 million Wii U units last year and Zelda U is no longer on the map for 2015. What would make Nintendo think that they have any hope in selling 3.4 million units in the coming year with their current line-up and price-point? Do you think there is something big planned that we do not know about? Do you think this is a sign of life for the Wii U and that Nintendo may be planning to support it well past 2016? (it seems unlikely that Nintendo would have plans to replace the Wii U in 2016 if they are hoping for the next 12 months to be the Wii U's peak year).
