Forums - Gaming Discussion - why is it that the overwhelming majority of games on PS4/X1 presented like movies?

why are games that look like movies such an issue?

seriously this kind of argument surprises me, and saying that those types of games constitute the majority of games on both PS4 and Xbox One shows the little knowledge you have about either system's library. maybe you should research more before posting about said systems.

read his complain and answers again... he is complaining that most AAA games have AAA graphics and trailers while ignoring what the game really is

Because thats what most differentiates a game (and pretty much every other form of media)

If you take out story telling and the things that give characters value, you are only really playing a game marginally better than what you played the gen before (or in some cases, many generations ago).

People want to be thrown into a new setting, even if they dont get to do anything a lot different to things they have done in other games.

That's a CGI trailer, made entirely to reveal a game and the plot to an extent and very little else. Games are not movies Obviously, but when a game has a heavy focus on story, it makes sense to present it as such rather than random snippets of gameplay, which are usually seen much later, closer to release. Also, kudos on making a thread with an neutral discussion, aside from the title.

well the easy answer for this is that they aren't and therefore you are only demonstrating your ignorance of the games libraries of both consoles

in fact there have been many complaints about too many indie type games coming to both consoles

I don't even know what you mean. Sure, Trailers look like movie trailers. It's just the best way to present information in a very short time frame in an entertaining way. But the games themselves? They're not like movies at all. Only a few examples like Heavy Rain would fit in that definition.

heavy rain is an extreme, and i played through that whole game, liked it a lot for what it is, and i respect it because it is the first of its kind.

i feel like the trailers being like movies show that the developer is putting more focus on the story than on how the game is played or any number of unique things you can do with the game. and im basically wondering why so much emphasis is put on that, and is it just a phase? will we go back to valuing what makes games unique from eachother, or is there always going to be more emphasis on story?

lol are you really saying that the use of generally 1:30 minute trailers is " much emphasis"?

are you being serious right now? lol

Well what grips my shit is game trailers that show zero gameplay just bullshit CGI crap that has nothing to do with the game itself think that halo 5 advert.

Beacuse they want to distract you from poor gamplay mecanics/ poor framerates/ lackluster story/ short game/ etc etc... been done since 1997 when CGI became mort important the the game itself.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Because the majority of games that sell play like movies.

Overwhelming Majority?

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

They are presented looking in the best possible way and that's with CGI and if any gameplay, from the PC version.
