Forums - Gaming Discussion - EGM Rumour: EA launches own console in 2010

While I don't have much faith in this rumour, EA sure could do it. And don't give me 'I won't get it cause EA sucks' either cause you will. Why?

Bioshock
Mass Effect
GTA
Assassins Creed
Prince of Persia

Virtually every major sports title
Possibly every Bioware, Pandemic, Take Two, Rockstar, Ubisoft and EA game exclusive to this one console?? From Manhunt and Mercenaries right on through to Rayman Rabbids and Destroy All Humans?

Who are you kidding? The line-up would be too good to be ignored.

And while people here may spurn Evil Arts, the general public do not. 360 would be in serious trouble and Sony would be hurting. The Wii would suffer too but be least affected overall.

Could EA do this? With the right hardware partner (Apple?) yes.

Would EA do this? Seems unlikely, but they keep whining about wanting one console...

 Those are Ubisoft games ...

Anyways , if they would buy Ubisoft and Take 2 , and maybe close a partnership for hardware with Apple , and if they would also get a cheap , high-end console out , than they could do it ... but I realy doubt it ...

This may explain EA's decision to buy Take-2. With EA, EA Sports and GTA, it would have all the games that most people want.

It's the investment in hardware that worries me. Does EA have what it takes?

EA games are made to a terrible standard, i can't begin to imagine someone wanting to own a console which games will the this majority...

Uh no they won't, Sony is apparently buying out rockstar which would give the rights to Sony. And EA making a home console is somewhat laughable and even more so if it's followed through on. Why would they want to? They'd sell less software since the games are now only on one console. Not a good decision at all but good rumour.

It would certainly be very interesting, especially if they got Rockstar, although I think that Sony or M$ would be very happy to buy them out of that deal. the question is what EA games would I want. The only one that I own is Burnout Paradise, and I am sure that I could survive without that, but if they had stuff like Crysis, Mass Effect or GTA exclusively on their system, many more poeple would be interested

Yes. This would mean no more EA titles on the 'real' consoles. I'm all for it! (mostly because I think they'd crash and burn bigtime)

I think people underestimate EA.  An EA console would succeed if only because their sports titles are regarded by many to be the best of the best.  Additionally, I think that their games would be of much higher quality.  Instead of developing say Madden 09 for the PS3, Xbox360, Wii, DS, and PSP, they could focus on one version for their own console.

Not much info, I don't know if EGM has a good reputation on rumours, but if they're right it's big news.

This could be another reason for them to aquire TakeTwo. All sports titles would go to EA's console with GTA.

Still, I think it would do mediocre, most gamers accept EA, at most. Plus it would seriously damage their income.

EGM has a GREAT reputation on rumors (I know, I subscribe). If this happens, it definately WON'T be a good thing. I know EA just shits out games every year with only minor improvements, but games like Madden are huge. If that came exclusively to an EA console....hell would freeze over

The four "super-genres" accounted for over 73% in combined revenue for fiscal year 2005. The "equally large genres," according to the analysts, are sports, first-person shooter, racing, and "crime-based action," which is the term they use to describe games in the same genre as the once-unique Grand Theft Auto series.

Assume that the market in 2010 will be 200mln US & Europe. 73% of 200mln = 146mln for the super genres.
If EA buys take 2 which also means 2k Sports. They will own 80% of the sports genre. They also have a big part in the racing genre with Need for Speed, Nascar, Midnight Club and Burnout let's say 25% of racing part. Crime-based action uhmm GTA Mafia and Godfather? Uh-oh 40%? FPS the weakest part of EA they still have Battlefield and Medal of Honor though 10%.

73% /4= 18,25% for each super genre.

Sports 80% of 18,25% =14,6%
Crime-based 40% of 18,25% =7,3%
Racing 25% of 18,25% = 4,5%
FPS 10% of 18,25% =1,8%
Total =28,2%

I not counting the Sims which could be HOME for EA console. Third Party publishers cannot ignore this marketshare.

Apple wants the livingroom like Sony and Microsoft. This could be a great oppertunity for them. i tunes i movies APPLE & i games for EA. Sony has a few of it's own sports titles and the eastern developers on it's side, but heavy commetition from Nintendo. Microsoft only has money and Halo. Nintendo has there innovation skills. Running the livingroom for Apple is more important than selling there hardware. Apple doesn't care when Philips, Pioneer, Panasonic, Sharp, Toshiba and Samsung sell a console with exactly the same specs. They will all have there software installed.

Then there's Activision-Blizzard with there Steam-Network. It's also interesting when they release a console. Although I don't think they have better games than EA to start a console with. Remeber this is all based on the scenario when EA buys T2 and this Rumor.

if hope EA fails miserably ( sega saturn)

payback for shitty ports to teh ps3!

but that would mean no more sports games, so no ea dont do it!

So how well did I calculate this marketshare? Important for making this rumor likely or not.

Sports 80% of 18,25% =14,6%
Crime-based 40% of 18,25% =7,3%
Racing 25% of 18,25% = 4,5%
FPS 10% of 18,25% =1,8%
Total =28,2%
