Forums - Gaming Discussion - Destiny Hits 20 Million Players

Destiny has hit 20 million players, according to publisher Activision.

The number came from the company's Q1 earnings call, which combined player numbers for Destiny and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft for a grand total of 50 million. Blizzard recently announced 30 million players for Hearthstone, leaving the other 20 million taking up arms in Destiny.

It didn't mention a timeframe for those 20 million players, so it's unknown if those are currently active players. We last heard that Destiny had 16 million players in February, so it's added another 4 million in the last three months. Activision did state that the average daily playtime is 3 hours, which it calls a "remarkable amount of engagement from a passionate player base."

To put in perspective 4 million players joined Destiny in the last 3 months without any new content release... HoW hits the game next week so I expect evenore player joining.

The stream today had over 200k players watching at the same time than the Barca game.

That does not mean sales, it just mean 20 million unique accounts have played the game. For instance 3 people (including myself) have played my copy of Destiny on their PSN account.

Even if you account that each copy sold was used by 2 users... 4 million in 3 months is just amazing for a new ip... you can be sure half of that are new sales.

So in the last three months Destiny sold 1.5-2.5m? Pretty good, no?

BTW VGC shows less than 700k copies sold in 2015... it is heavly undertracked here.

There is no way 3.3m copies are used lol

Sales are like I said 1.5-2.5m.

BTW from anedoctal GAF posters the activity in Destiny is increasing more each month... more players shows on the friend list playing the game and the old ones continue non-stop too.

This is just one store in the UK. It has near 3000 online and probably countless more in it's stores. Add in GAME, all the independents, every other country in the world and I'm going to say that, yes, there are a lot of used copies of the game out there.

I'm not saying it makes all the difference but in terms of users for Bungie's data, it will help a lot.

Destiny is one of those AAA titles that you see a lot used.     It is cheaper used than games like Far cry/The Crew/Tomb raider for me  http://www.gamemania.be/Default.aspx?tabid=294&select=Used&show=22#0

this is huge. i wish they would just tell us sold numbers. it surely has passed the 10 million sold and maybe even 12-13 million sold. just announce it already.
