Forums - PC Discussion - AMD Info! HBM-equipped Radeon this quarter! Zen CPU architecture in 2016

I'm definitely not a expert, but wouldn't the speed of the HBM alleviate some of this? I thought that the speed difference of HBM was massive compared to GDDR5.

To my knowledge; this will mostly affect how fast you collect and cycle the samples but it won't help storing/processing more samples, which will ultimately hold it back from bigger potential rendering capacity.

Tons of info in the OP is wrong.

Which parts? Most of the info is straight from AMDs presenation?

I mean just off the top of my head I know the 390X with 4GB of HBM would be 4096-bit.  Honestly I don't remember the rest without re-reading it.  Go to WCCFTech they have a few really could synopsises of the 390X info/rumors.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

No 8GB card is such a mistake.

Thus I'm still saving for a Titan X, though there'll probably cheaper 8GB cards by the time I'm ready. I need 8GB min to replace my 2GB 670, the vram usage is gonna explode at 1440p/4K the coming years and 4GB is not gonna cut it.

Yeah, I'm also going full 1440p and need more video RAM and power.

I honestly don't know what AMD are thinking here.

They just don't have a choice.  HBM is brand new and so yeilds are low.  They can only make half the cards if they stick 8GB on the boards.

If it beats the Titan X by 30% and costs $150 less would you really choose the Titan?

It is double the fastest GDDR5 cards, and on top of that it is by using a massive bus (Bigger bus > than higher speed if they are equal in total bandwidth).

The same WCCFTech claims the R9 390 chips will be Hawaii based, that is, GTX 970 levels. I think you are mixing it up. The Fiji chips with HBM memory supposedly will not be using the same nomenclature, and I bet they are probably around Titan levels, not significantly better.

Edit - I'm more interested on see how the Zen CPUs will turn out instead of this last bath of 28nm monstruosities. I mean, Bulldozer/Vishera was a huge letdown. I just discovered that on a per core, per clock basis, they are worse than the Phenom IIs. How messed up is that? If I were AMD, I would be showing the door to some developers right away...

HBM is not twice as fast as GDDR5, at least not in this first iteration.

A card with 4 stacks of 1GB of HBM will have a total bandwidth of 512GB/s while the TitanX has 336GB/s and the 290X 320GB/s.

I am confused about what you are saying.  They have said several times that the top Fiji should meet or beat the Titan.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

If they do get the 40% higher IPC for ZEN, and keep the high clock rates of the bulldozer/piledriver/excavator chips, I can see them being pretty much level with Intel. If they can also keep their lower prices, it will be an easy choice for a CPU for a gaming rig.

Once again, that's a big if, 40% is huge.
