Forums - Gaming Discussion - Oculus Rift for Xbox One or PS4? "Anything Is Possible"

"We've talked to everyone. There's a lot of people right now interested in the VR space. And we've said many times that we're interested in bringing the Rift to as many consoles or platforms as possible. Ultimately, we haven't announced any sort of partnerships to date. But it's something we're always exploring."

The interviewer said he would enjoy being able to use an Oculus Rift headset on his PS4, to which Mitchell replied, "Anything is possible." Of course, Sony already has its own PS4 virtual reality headset, Project Morpheus, while Microsoft has its HoloLens AR/VR tech.

Oculus Rift, when it launches publicly in the first quarter of 2016, will require a somewhat beefy PC rig. So the appeal of Oculus Rift working with a game console like a PS4 or Xbox One is that you'd already have the required hardware. Mitchell said Oculus will have more announcements to make in the lead-up to E3, one of which will be the technical specifications your PC will need to support Oculus Rift.

"You're going to want a nice gaming rig," he said. "We're not talking about a high-end, crazy computer, but something that would run modern games well today."

I hope at least one of the devices will be compatible (maybe not at launch) to both PS4 and PC. Buying multiple headsets for different platforms is something only the biggest enthusiasts will do, it's a no-go if they want VR to be mainstream.

PS4 already have its own coming up so doesn't need it at all...

XBO might get it since i don't think HoloLens is going to be as cheap as ordinary VR headset...

i can it see coming to xbox but sony wont allow it since they have there own thing

Quick question,

How powerfull do my laptop need to be to run the Oculus Rift? Say, I wanted to run The Lord of the Rings Shire demo, would I be able to do that on my low end PC.

*I don't know s*** about PC, specs etc.

Competition is good

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Hololens has nothing to do with xbox in that way.  Hololens is a stand alone, self contained product that may interact with the xbox but will never depend on it.

with the tech HoloLens have, i believe it can be use as a VR headset with XBO with a software update if MS want it to, but we all know it won't be as cheap as ordinary VR headset, so working with Oculus Rift will make it more affordable if they want XBO owners able to enjoy VR gaming on their platform too...

the field of view on the current HoloLens prototype is reportedly pretty small (like a screen floating in front of you), that wouldn't do well with VR, because the feeling of immersion comes from the game being all around you
