Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Hypocrisy of gamers/reviewers complaining about Koei games

Koei making hack & slash Dynasty Warriors/mosou games = People complain its always the same, koei makes the same games etc.

Koei making something different like Bladestorm which is a strategy game = it gets mediocore reviews and gets trashed

Bladestorm is a fantestic game if you want to play an action strategy game on consoles, there is no competition on 8-Gen systems. Its addicting and fun imo. I think the graphics are quite okay, they look mediocore but once you see 40+ horses on the screen and still running smooth its obvious why the game looks like it does, its more like an rts engine.

The game doesnt deserve its mediocore reviews, it shows once again that metacritic is broken.

I felt the same way with playing codename steam and Nintendo. People expect new ideas, yet perfect implementation.

I remember playingit back in 2007 and had some good times, I honestly don't see anything wrong with BS in any way.

Can't wait to grab it in a few weeks time for PC though.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Weird to see someone acting like a port of a seven year old game is some bastion of innovation...

You know, I was gonna make a long post talking about this "Hipocrisy", but then I re-read you OP and saw that your point is "I think this game is great; reviewers are wrong, Metacritic sucks."

Now I'm gonna make another topic: Why do people say Metacritic is broken? It's a compilation of reviewers. Are you saying the score system of reviews are wrong, or that making a compilation is wrong? If you said yes to either, then why bother?

Ok ok, more on topic now... Just because Koei Tecmo made a new IP doesn't mean they have to get praised; if the game is bad, then it's bad. Old series or not, is irrelevant.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Pretty much this. I do think a lot of the industry is over critical of games that aren't able to perfectly execute a new idea right from the get go (while at the same time criticizing other games that just refine pre-existing gameplay mechanics), but a game that tries something new isn't inherently good. A fresh turd isn't much more appealing that a stale one.

Trying something new does not necessarily merit praise. Trying something new AND getting it right is what deserves praise. If someone comes up with a new concept but that concept is flawed then it deserves to get bad reviews, regardless of whether of not the maker has been rehashing an old concept for a long time. This isn't hypocrisy. It's being objective.

You seem to have an issue with the reviews themselves, which is fine. But once again, this is different from what you're claiming in the title.

Thank you to both of you. Needed to be said.
