Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is it worth getting into the Professor Layton franchise?

Okay so this is for the people who have played one or several Professor layton games. Are they good and fun, and worth getting invested in? I dont play much puzzle only games but i dont have anything against them. Also does it have a great soundtrack? i heard some songs and from what i heard its really good .

I've been wondering this myself. They seem like good games.

Yes if you like puzzles and a good story

Yes! I just started with the 3DS games. I don't think they require you to know much about previous entries. The story is entertaining and if you like puzzle games, it's definitely worth a chance.

Fantastic games if you like puzzles.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

I've played them all (as well as the crossover), and if you have any reasonable interest in puzzles and/or a strong story-driven title then definitely pick them up. If not, and you just want the story, then perhaps Ace Attorney would be a better choice.

Both excellent, under-appreciated franchises however. You can't really go wrong with either.

For your question about the soundtrack, there's a lot of catchy songs but most importantly they really add to the atmosphere. One to play with the sound cranked up or with headphones for sure.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Absolutely. Cool stories, great characters and fun puzzles and riddles

Some of the puzzles are created with a bigger screen in mind. There are puzzles that can be hard to understand due to the small size.
The 2D Layton games are better IMO. Some of the backtracking is boring.
Professor Layton and Fire Emblem was the reason for me to buy 3DS, bought the games before the console.

One has to be aware that the games are really just 90% puzzles + 10% a little story wrapped around. So it really all depends on how much one likes puzzles.

Personally, I was never a big fan of solving puzzles or riddles - but I absolutely LOVED Professor Layton. The puzzles are absolutely diverse and everything, just great.

Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright - those series were easily the best Nintendo DS games I've ever played.
