Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Should Pokemon X/Y owners be able to download Pokemon Z at a cheaper price? ***Edited***

If Pokemon Z (or X2 and Y2) is going to be like the typical 3rd version for X and Y, should  X and Y owners download it from the eShop at a cheaper price? If this were to happen, the game would still be sold in retail or eShop for people who don’t own X and Y. However people that own X/Y should be able to download it at a cheaper price.

Typically, 3rd versions of Pokémon games are very similar to the original two versions. While the story and region (to a lesser degree) is new, nothing much changes. The art style is the same with some minor graphical updates and there isn’t any new generation of Pokémon introduced. ORAS didn’t introduce the 7th generation of Pokemon either, but it did introduce Gen 4-6 Pokemon to Hoenn. It's also a remake of a decade old game on a different system. Pokemon Z is going to be on the same system as X and Y.

And although the story of the 3rd Pokemon version is new, the story progression is very similar to the original two versions. The order of gyms and towns you go through is almost the same.

So should owners of X and Y download Pokemon Z at a cheaper price?

No. I like my physical versions and they change the story a lot from each version. It would be too much to download. (not saying they couldn't do it, but it would piss a lot of people off due to space or something)

No because Pokemon Z will be something like Pokemon BW2 (two versions).

Probably alot different too.

Actually, they should had a DLC option for X owners to get Y and for Y owners get X too. They just release two/three games because they expect some people to buy a full price game even if the differences could easily fit on a DLC.

And with all the "on-disc DLC hate", it's good to note that in most Pokemon ROMs, the content of the complementary game is available and it's just locked.

It's very likely that X and Y simply contains all data from both version, just with some locked in X and some in Y. Even if it isn't the case, the difference isn't big because most assets are shared.

So release a physical version for those that care about space. They just prefer that you buy the game again instead of giving you a cheaper DLC option.

No.

Z/X2 & Y2 is bound to offer so much new content that DLC alone wouldn't be able to add to X & Y.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

It would be nice to offer 2 of the games for say $65 or something if both are $40 individually. At least get a break in price for the people that buy double. I'm sure a lot more people would buy both then.

A cheaper physical double-pack would be a good option. As a DLC, they could offer the other game for 15 or 20 bucks and you would just download the extra assets or such.

For sure! I mean, they will lose money initially from people who normally buy both anyway but they'll also gain from the people switching over who normally only buy 1.

It could be hit or miss profitwise but I think it would work well.

Problem is that if it ended up making less money because of it and they had to switch back the next time a game was made it wouldn't go over too well.

I don't think it should..

This will open up the doors to Pokemon DLC, having small installments of 'episodes' which isn't very good.

I would prefer that they just release full games
