Forums - Microsoft Discussion - The Verge new impressions on HoloLens - great screen, but demos shown so far "basically a lie"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfC8RoQcez0

Feels pretty much finished

Screen is great

Recognises voice commands and head movements well, but you can't get too close or camera will start clipping

Not immersive enough, never feel you are there

Poor fov, not augmenting reality, just a fraction of it

So basically the PR video from MS is misrepresentivity of what the actual user experiance is.
Well thats marketing for you.

I think VR will be much much bigger, since its easier to develope for, less requireing of the software/hardware, and will have gameing pushing its developement forwards. AR is going to be big for Social media.

Yeah i think we all expected it wouldnt perform as it was advertised. even the advertised content wasnt all that impressive.

As far as AI goes, well i dont see it taking off, the novelty of AR faded away quickly after the first ot second time you use it. I dont think hololens is any different

I see AR being big.... just not for gameing, and not now.
AR time is still 10years away or so.

VR could be big, from right at launch (for gameing).

Darn. :/

Called it. Seriously, do not trust advertising when it comes to MS.

Bad microsoft again, sad, can they even learn ?

Lol the people in that comment section are mad.

My bet is that this is going to be in a lot of ways like the Kinect, the demos MS is showing of this right now should basically be more taken as "this is what we want this to be able to do at one point, though it doesn't really do it right now." Even the first iteration of this that's going to be sold will not be nearly as good as these demos are making it out to be, once Hololens 2.0 or 3.0 comes out we might actually be getting something that's getting close to this.

Yeah has no one learned from those Kinect videos, where after a while they had to add text along the lines of visualisation not actual product.

This is not going to be a great product for gaming, and I'm not really sure why MS are going this route, it's like they've seen everyone else doing VR and thought, we're too late to get into that market and it will cost too much money... let's just do something else. But it just seems half cocked.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Give it a couple more years in the oven and then i'll be interested.
