I agree. I like the concept of upvote/downvote but in execution it ends up being a mess.

Initially, an upvote-only system doesn't sound too bad because it would remove needless spam comments. However, I think in the end it would be a hot mess, discouraging constructive conversation and encouraging extremist behavior.

It sounds like a good idea in theory but it's also a system that can be easily abused. An anonymous upvote/downvote system I think would create chaos. While an upvote only system would just encourage people to make threads/post for the sake of upvotes.

Overall I think we are better off without them.

For this particular forum a voting system would be a bad idea, the forum its too homegeus and less diverse. It would be Nintendo>>Sony>>>>>>>Microsoft for each consoles fanbase opinions. At least thats what anonym polls often show.

Glad someone said it. Upvotes/likes/thumbs up/etc. all that crap just makes it a big popularity contest. Which let's be honest, is a huge part of life and society. I don't encourage it on social media and I don't encourage it here.

You made some great points, which I think all would apply to VGC. Leave the upvote system out.
