Heya all, Cloudman here after a long absense of doing threads. I blame it on life and being busy with all sorts of random stuff, but here I am wanting to do a thread on something that's been knawing at me for some time now. Sorry if this thread has been done before, but I have to get this out of me now.

Graphics in games, how much do they matter to you? Are they the highest point in your decision in buying and/or playing a game, a middle ground, or on the low end?

Seeing how it is now the 8th generation and games have evolved a lot since they first started, so of course there is a certain level of expectations in games, and basically anything else today for that matter, but that's a different topic. A certain group may expect top of the line visuals, sound, and performance, while others don't mind that so much as long as the game is enjoyable, has good music, or has a good story, whatever the reason(s) is/are.

I'd say I fall on the 2nd option. Great graphics are nice to have, but gameplay likely is what matters to me the most. I can stand acceptable visuals as long as the game is good. Even my favorite games of all time are on the old consoles, like Gen/SNES days. Nowadays, a fair size of people probably won't care for older games like these, or these sorts of visuals, but I still find them to be very wonderful games.

Not the best visuals in these current days, but I can play these games all day...

Though this doesn't mean I don't care for games with the best visuals. If the game is impressive, I'll marvel at them, but they're not the most important to me. The game itself has to be fun for me to enjoy it... Graphics are good, but should never be the most important thing in a game, at least to me. The most impressive and stunning visuals will never matter if the game itself is not good. That's just me though...

Fun, AND beautiful.

Great, both visually and gameplay wise!

Jaw dropping visuals, not so enjoyable for me, unfortunately...

Visually stunning visuals for its time, but the game? Zzz...

So, uh, yeah... How important are graphics to you? Are they a big factor for you, or not so much...? Feel free to discuss about the question, or any sort of questions or suggestions to me. You can also tell me how stupid I am for disliking excellent games like the Order, or FF13, if you want... Anyways, thanks for reading.

Graphics of a game mean very little to me

id like the game to look as good as it can.

When I get a new system I obviously want better graphics or else I'd just stick to older systems.

I have a GTX970 and a 8core CPU so graphics are pretty damn important to me. I can't live without 1080p. I can't deal with drops below 50fps. That said graphics and gameplay aren't mutually exclusive, I'm a "why not both" kinda guy. I don't remember the last time I played a "meh" game but all my games are pretty as hell.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Its nice to have nice looking games, but if i cared about graphics i would be a pc gamer, Gameplay, story depending on game, even music all come before graphics for me.

This is always kind of a strange question for me.  I mean, graphical advances often directly impact game-play advances.  FPS games, for example, are highly dependent on effective 3D rendering.  That makes it impossible for me to say, "it doesn't matter," because, clearly, there are instances where it does matter.

They can be a vital ingredient to improving game-play.

That being said, I don't give a rat's ass about "ultra high," and I certainly won't go looking for a new video card just because I have to play on "medium".

Graphics don't matter to me, if they are good its a bonus but I'm a gameplay guy. I'm as happy to play small Indie games as much as I am to play the latest AAA jaw dropping blockbuster. I've got to say though, that Nintendo games do look beautiful on Wii U in their HD glory.

I thought people purchase another system mainly to play upcoming games that are not coming to the previous console, but whatever...

Back on topic, I don't really care about graphics. As long as they're good enough to not interfere in a negative way on the game, graphics can be 8 bit style for me.

The amount of remasters and remakes this generation would say differently. The fact they are selling well also says a lot.

I never meant to say that's it's the only reason, but it is a reason why people upgrade as well.
