Forums - Gaming Discussion - What games do you consider having the best sense of scale?

Kyuu said:

In the games I listed, you are given complete control over the camera, which is the first thing God of War will need if they want to "wow" me again. GoW grabs you from the back of your head and forces you into looking at very specific directions. This old technique, in my opinion, hurts the overall sense of scale because it feels like you're constrained and that the other side of the screen is "under construction" More power to those who disagree or feel different about it. Scale just isn't of much value if you can't appreciate it.

Damn, not only do I completely disagree but I can't comprehend your stance at all. So you need to be burdened with needless camera controls in a game to be wowed by the scale? So I'm guessing films can't wow you with scale either?

You need to lose the amazing in-game cinematography that only automated cameras fine-tuned by professionals can offer in exchange for the ability to look away from the centre of attention just to appreciate scale?.... :S

And the bolded is just nonsense, there's no reason to let things you can't see affect how you feel. At the end of the day It's your opinion so as perplexed as I am, I won't argue about it.

God of War III's scale is unmatched for me:

Senran Kagura

:D

God Of War III easily.

Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Seriously one of the most if not the most impressive landscapes I have ever seen. ( I know there are other great ones, not doubting those games! :P )

The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver series come to mind.

I thought fallout 3 really captured that post-apocalypse atmosphere to the point that I've found all other attempts disappointing since (the scale of the barren wasteland really forced a mood on you).

More literally for scale, though... Mr. Mosquito :D

Far Cry 4
Fallout 3
Alan Wake
Just Cause 2

Asura's Wrath laughs at your puny enemies...

I really dunno what you are asking.

Games like WoW and Rift, are bigger, with more content and features than every game I've seen mentioned in this article.

The God Of War series along with the Uncharted series always set a great sense of scale for me.
