Forums - Gaming Discussion - Forum Styled D&D?

It would be awesome to have something like this going on in VGC, with the large userbase we could expand the world even further with different terrorities, factions etc...

Not being well-versed in the rules of D&D I think I wouldn't be the best individual to act as dungeon master in this ever-changing procedural game, which isn't helped by the fact I won't have much free-time in the coming weeks. I wanna see how many people will feel happy playing along, as we could make it a collaborative effort in the way of world building and setting the rules.

A Forum Roleplaying section? Might get interesting, but very difficult to keep it both under control and properly running as far as I know.

Also, D&D ain't really my kind of Tabletop RPG, I'm more of a cWOD type

Prehaps a section if the demand warrants it. I share your concerns on both of those accounts, just really fishing for ideas to get people (me included), more involved here xD

I have zero experience again with D&D and games of that ilk, just assumed it would be a little cool to have something like that going on here.

I tried setting up a roleplaying game, but it was way too demanding. I got overcrowded with things to do and people waiting for me for them to do their thing, and eventually ended up shifting the project to someone else.

I think we can work it out where there is a certain level of activity during the week, prehaps having more than 1 person moderating the whole thing.

Would love if you can find that original thread so I can enlighten myself.

Normal table top role playing games have a rule set and a goal while ours was more just free form straight role playing. It was a lot of fun for a little while but waiting for other people just got a little too much, and there wasn't really enough unity in the group. Sometimes it just felt like everyone was doing their own thing and some of the personalities were a little too much to work with.

If we can nail down a tighter ruleset it may be able to work and with summer break basically here I'm certainly down for anything (except DMing). It is a great writing exercise if nothing else ^.^

That would be a lot of work :P But if a lot of people were running it that would be pretty cool

Wright's original thread is a great reference point. However, like you said their has to be stringent rules and a cap on the number of players playing, with a great emphasis on the overall needs of the party.

I am quite reluctant being the Dungeon Master myself as I am a complete novice.

Looks like this will take a lot of time and effort, so if you're able to organize one, good job!
