Remasters never sell as well as new installments.

the sales were okay, but the game was so broken that the brand took a big hit..

People have to understand that the disc had four games on it. Because of Halo MCC's issues (which are mostly dealt with now), Halo 5 is going to have dedicated servers and the users who bought Halo 4 MCC by december 19th will get Halo ODST remastered for free along with the extra map dlc.

if 1 game was bugged, nobody would care for it, but network problems cant be blamed on this...

Right now Titanfall just solidified that Microsoft is the prime FPS console. The hype died down majorly though. Halo's hype never dies down as fast as Titanfalls did. Halo 5 will kick things up a notch. I will be at midnight launch with my mountain dew and doritos, soaking in the media propaganda. Remember, Halo 5 is the original door buster game. Its the reason there are midnight releases.

Yes the XB1 is the prime console for FPS games but FPS games are not dominating all other Genres like they did last gen.

Unless Halo 5 is just amazing I think it sells around 7 mil lifetime.

Halo 3 sold over 12 mil

Halo 4 is just under 10 mil (and it had a massive userbase at its launch)

I think Halo 5 continues the downward trend especially since it wont launch to the same userbase that Halo 4 did.

Halo 3 sold that much because people hadn't played a new Halo in years and Halo 3 dropped in 2008 which was three years after the Xbox dropped. Gears of War became the new tag team partner for Halo until it launched. Those two games carried the 360 through everything. The Xbox One is selling faster than the 360 did, so the chances are that by Halo 6 the sales are going to be pretty big once more. Because of the fact that 360 gamers cannot touch Halo 5 it will force them to buy an Xbox One. The bundles will be out there and we all known how good Micorsoft is at selling bundles on Black Friday. Now imagine a black friday with a newly released Halo. Thats insane. I predict that Microsoft will sell etween 2.5-3 million Xboxes between November and december alone. Halo 5 will have 5 million by the end of the year and will over time continue to gain sales.

I doubt it will do much. Consumers aren't dumb and can easily google search to see how long this killer app is awaited.

But Xbox team need to show the corporate suits up at microsoft that their console can sell without games, because they'll probably be funded less if they can't sell enough during their 'dry-periods of games' (No major exclusive or system seller since beginning of 2015)

Halo is the original North American door buster game. Midnight releases started because of it. Halo 5 will sell not only large quantities of games but it will give Microsoft the sales boost they need for the year. MS can't cut price this year so they are lucky Halo 5 will drop in late October.

Obviously it will sell megatons, i'm talking about whether advertising halo 5 heavily now will sell xbox ones now

Watched Avengers Age of Ultron last night and Halo 5 was the last advert before the film started.

Just throwing that one in there.

Its a new generation. Its a certainty that Halo is pretty much the last hope for the year to raise Xbox One sales. Halo 3 was the peak sales the 360 ever attained, but Halo 5 much like 3 will be building itself on a new console. Every other game will rise or level out. I think Halo 6 sill sell more because by that time the Xbox One will have reached capacity for potential Halo purchases.

Being perfectly realistic, the fate of the XB1 relies on Halo 5. Sure, RotTR and Forza 6 are games to look forward to, but they're not gonna give XB1 that competitive edge, especially with UC4 around the corner and potentially GT7. I honestly think the fact that we're seeing ads so soon is pointing more and more towards Sony getting those BO3 marketing deals, as well.

UC4 is a nonfactor for 2015 now, so it seems like UC4 is going to go up against Quantum Break in spring of next year. PS4 wont get Tomb Raider either until like six or seven months after launch for sure. We all know Microsoft will bundle Halo 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider in special edition Xboxes for the holiday season, so Sony is really going to be digging and still going off of hype. No doubt Sony will win the year while Microsoft wins 4th quarter again though. When Microsoft makes deals like this it totally kills the buzz for Sony with Rise of the Tomb Raider though. Remember Bioshock? Sold decently, but it could've been way better had Microsoft not stepped in the way of a dual launch. Unless Sony comes up with something at E3 they are pretty much spent for the year on AAA exclusives.

Sony getting BO3 and Battlefront marketing deals and bundles will definitely give PS4 an edge this holiday, plus I sincerely doubt Sony's just gonna go through the rest of the year without at 1 or 2 more big AAA titles. E3 will tell all.

People have this misconception about Halo, they call it a huge system seller, but when you look at the numbers of actual hardware that it moves upon release it's not actually that high, not compared to something like Destiny, Watch Dogs or say launch effect or the effect of multiple reasonable simultaneous releases.

Looking at the 22nd of September 2007 (according to VG) 360 already sold 164,012 that week, Halo 3 comes out on the 25th of September and yeah it moves 3,811,047 software units by the 29th, but the hardware sales only go up to 11,902,194 from 11,670,655, that's only an increase of 67,527 consoles sold because of Halo 3, the best selling Halo game of all time.

It seems most likely that anyone that wants to play Halo will have already bought an XB1 by the time Halo 5 comes out, the series seems to be on a downward trend in popularity. It's very doubtful that Halo 5 will even have a fraction of the effect that Halo 3 did on moving hardware.
Forza has already had it's effect with Horizon 2 and Motorsport 5 already on the platform, Tomb Raider isn't an exclusive and recently it's been heavily rumored that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be on other platforms by Spring 2016.

No doubt Halo 5 will sell a high volume of software, at least a couple million week of release, but I don't see that alone pushing close to a 60K boost compared to the week before it releases.

Thats decent enough I guess, but I don't see it winning the holiday season for Sony. Halo will sell consoles on its own for sure though.
