Forums - Gaming Discussion - Console Players Deserve PC-Style Graphics Settings, Project Cars Dev Says (Gives Options for Video Settings)

It appears that the Developers of Project cars is going to let you cutomize your video settings with visual FX.  Would you all like to see more games do this?

"Console owners should have just as much right to tailor their game to their particular preferences as PC players," Tudor says, "whether that’s authenticity, visual options, how the camera reacts, accessibility etc.

"The racing genre is pretty mature at this point and many console racing fans are therefore eager to for this kind of additional depth, plus the racing genre is also very broad meaning this kind of personalization will allow fans of both traditional racing games on consoles and veteran PC sim racing titles to feel right at home."

Aren't those options just to make sure it works best for your video card and doesn't slowdown or anything? Ya know, a problem that you shouldn't really have on consoles in the first place...

Depends on how it is implemented.  If done correctly you may able to turn up some settings higher by turning other settings down lower.  By turning some settings up, you may sacrifice frame rate, etc

If that's the case then PC Players Deserve Console-style pricing with the systems.

I think you should pay for more If you want more, plus, companies need profit as well :P

That and in the end when you build a decent rig to handle the game most if not all settings go to max, on a console this doesn't make sense ebcause the settings should be set to what the console can handle, not settings that would effectively kill it, if anything the settings would be therre to turn it down a notch than up one due to the power of the current two systems and even then the way he's talking about it you may as well make your own rig anyway because consoles are supposed to be consoles not PC's.

He can talk about options all he wants from a dev pov but consoles last time I checked were supposed to be all simple and to the point, it's hardly like that now and he's adding to it.

Settings are also so that you can choose what best suits you. I prefer better image-quality in my games, for example, so if I want to use GPU power to have 4 x SSAA at Medium settings rather than High/Ultra settings with no AA I will often choose it (depending on the display I am playing on.) However, some people might not be bothered by aliasing or might not notice it. So they'll not want higher image quality. The same can be said for frame-rate. For consoles, since they are closed platforms, you can have like five-six presets addressing people's preferences.

I agree... If some people prefer fps over graphics and vice versa, then it should be a thing. Of course, for online, everyone has to have the same setting but for single player, it would be neat

Why is that? PC gamers play online games fine with different settings.

Yes that's what I've been saying for years.

Let the people choose if they'd rather want to have 720p 60FPS or 1080p 30FPS (multiplayer excluded).
And yes, I know that changing the resolution from 1080p to 720p doesn't give you automatically an FPS boost that would make the game run at a constant 60FPS.

Just make two simple options to choose from. Both being optimized by the devs.

We do? Well if you say so...

I think the developer has the right to determine how they want the game to be experienced.

Rather than giving players options on the PC, the procedure of providing players with graphical options arose out of the fact that PCs vary in hardware across the spectrum, every PC could handle different amounts of things.

Consoles don't have that issue, but player preference now conflicts with developer interests in some cases.
For instance, playing KH and replacing all the music with europop might be player preference, but it goes against what the developer intends.

I firmly believe it is the developers right to provide these options or with hold them based on their intentions. Once it is a requirement, that's ruin gaming even further.
So to answer the question:
I wouldn't care if they did it or not, but it should be the developer's decision as much as the genre, story, performance, resolutions, etc.
