Forums - Sales Discussion - Did Xbox One peak in its first year?

Did it peak in 2014?

Yes 157 63.05%

No 92 36.95%

Total:249

Right now the Xbox One is probably down YoY, flat at best, despite competing with a machine that was $150 more expensive, released in fewer countries and with fewer bundled games.

Yes, it has Halo later this year, but if it can't keep up now, Halo alone will have a tough time keeping the console above the sales peak last year from the "temporary" cuts, bundles and Tier 2 launches. Not to mention making up for lost sales throughout the rest of the year on top of that.

If the measures MS has taken so far didn't bring sales up YoY, it's possible smaller cuts won't work either, meaning a first-year peak.

Do you think the console peaked already, or do you see something bringing sales up YoY?

If Halo 5 doesn't bring it back up YoY, then I'll feel inclined to say yes. That would be interesting though, because consoles typically don't peak in their first year.

No it will more then likely peak in the year the slim model will come out.

I don't think so. MS can afford to take a hit and if the XB1 starts to do horrible, they have ways to turn that around.

Still ahead of 360 in current lifetime afaik.

That would be next year I imagine. $250 base price and a slimmer, much nicer looking unit.

Just because this year might not give a YoY increase from year 1, doesn't mean year one is the peak.

PS4 price cut and a serious focus by MS on this holiday makes things interesting, but I think PS4 will hold steady this year and increase for a couple years while X1 will hold steady over this year and then dip out from there.

It's possible but it's a bit early to be talking about YoY. MS ruined the xbone's launch and it's probably having a snowball effect to it's sales.

Ruined its launch?? Its one of the best launches of all time, it was the months after where it all went wrong. Fell to sub OG Xbox levels iirc.

We all know though it was their unveiling that put a knife to the consoles throat, it will have to battle with that for the rest of its life.

I think Halo 5 will probably make it up slightly year over year. If it does not then its first year will be the peak. Slim wont help much
