Forums - Gaming Discussion - Will Nintendo's next console cut into PS4's success?

Do you think Nintendo's next console will hurt the sales of PS4?

I think it has a chance. If the console gets third party games, doesn't have to be all of them, just a good amount and definitely the bigger ones such as Madden, Fifa, Call of Duty, Battlefield, NBA, Assassin's Creed, etc. (would buy a nintendo system for an amazing 007 game, perhaps achieving the greatness of Agent Under Fire)

It could if the console has a good, marketable, memorable name with PS4 specs or greater at a good price. A nice console design could help too.

It could if they get rid of the motion controls, and go back to having their standard controller be an actual controller

It could if they make some new franchises, while also improving their already well established franchises and making them fresh but familiar.

It could if it has a steady flow of games and especially good launch games

Finally, it could if they make a game like Super Mario Sunshine.

Now...

It won't be able to if it sucks

If they have a shitty gimmick

If they continue using the "Wii" name

If they don't get any third party multi plats

And if the controller sucks

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I think it's time for people to realize that if Nintendo games were as highly regarded among the average gamer as they are among the gaming press and dedicated ninty lovers, everyone would have a Wii U...Instead of very few people having a Wii U.

Most people don't care about Nintendo games.

Unless some crazy miracle happens for Nintendo, no way.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

The average gamer doesn't seem to bother much with Nintendo's first party home console games, so if Nintendo do get third parties they're not going to buy a system to play the same games they can on their PS4/X1.

But then if they do they can play Nintendo games, but as demonstrated earlier they don't care for them. So.. no.

That's a lot of 'ifs'...

and I don't think it will.

yeah i think it's extremely unlikely nintendo's next console could do much to ps4, but it could depending on how much it's marketed and on the games it gets

Well if it releases early enough and is moderately successful it could definitely cut short this generation (although this generation was already meant to be shorter than the last.)

I can see their home console releasing Winter 2017 (handheld version releasing early 2017), Sony and/or Microsoft announcing their new console(s) E3 2018, and releasing them Winter 2018. That would give both the Wii U and PS4/XBO five years on the market.

That is actually beneficial to Sony/MS because the hardware in their platforms is becoming outdated, and third parties want more.

As for power, I can see the next nintendo console capable of something like 3-5 TFLOPS, and Sony/MS capable of something like 8-10 TFLOPs (about the difference between an r9 280x-r9 290x and an r9 390x-r9 295x2 in terms of performance.) Nintendo's next platform will be 1080p 60fps capable with current gen features, Sony's and Microsoft's 1440p/30fps capable with more advanced features than current generation. Just like the gap between the Wii U and PS4/XBO is smaller than that between Wii and XB360/PS3 so will the gap between NX(Console version) and PS5/XBTWO be smaller than Wii U and PS4/XBO.

It`s certainly possible, depending on what Nintendo does, but I`m leaning on `not really`.
