Forums - Movies & TV - Avengers: Age of Ultron - Thoughts & Spoilers

So, I was lucky enough to get into a local preview screening last night, so starting the thread now. I'll keep the big spoilers out but that doesn't mean people can moan at us for talking about the film and mentioning spoilers. You've been warned.

I shall paint the picture, I knew nothing about the film other than the name (little hard to miss) and the main cast from the first film. I'm not sure what I went into it expecting. As a big Marvel fan, I know of Ultron, the character, and hoped for certain aspects in this film that would live up to how great of a character he is, his plans and origin. This failed 20 minutes in when I realised this wasn't going to be the case. Alas, fanboy dream over, I will say the way Ultron was portrayed was really good, 2nd best part of the film.

I'm not a fan of Whedon's writing at all, the one-liners wear thin, sadly this film didn't lack them. Maybe it was meant to have a darker tone but the comedic moments were there were not as well scripted as the first film. The action sequences were good but with so many characters fighting for screen time it can get a bit lost.

Overall, I think this film wasn't as good as the first Avengers film, Cap 2 and Guardians being the best made so far. It was entertaining but lacked in many aspects.

Let me know of your thoughts (if and when you see it considering general release isn't for another week and a half for you USAians).

Hmm, pie.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm not at all surprised by your thoughts. I thought the first Avengers film was alright and this one looks like more of the same. I'm just glad that the Russo brothers are taking over for Avengers 3.

One question: is the Hulk/Black Widow romance as stupid in the movie as it looks in the trailers?

Yeah, pretty much. Not sure where that really came from honestly, maybe just to give them something more to do.

Hmm, pie.

I couldn't resist and read the thread! I'm a weak, weak man. At least I won't walk in with unrealistic expectations. Just answer this: Does an Avenger die?

A yes or no will suffice.

Depends on how you look at things, considering that there have been 3 Antmans over time. :P Hank Pym (Yellowjacket) created Ultron in the comics, let's get that right. When I said "fanboy dream over", that may be a hint at what I was getting at.

You know, I'm dissappointed they are doing a film called Captain Marvel and the main character isn't Mar-Vell.

Hmm, pie.

What did you think of the first Iron Man?   And I personally thought Guardians was boring, so if you think this was worse than that, I guess I am going to be disappointed...

First Iron Man is so old now (in reality) but still in my view the best Iron Man. Hard to know really how it compares, as I've seen that a fair few times, this only once. :P
