Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 'issue': a single beep/chirp once in a while

I got a PS3 Slim a few days ago and I noticed that while playing, every so often (maybe every 30 minutes), the system makes a beep/chirp sound, which sounds really ugly. Nothing really happens to the game, no noticible slow downs or crashes as of yet, so my guess is that this is normal but I just wanted to ask to be sure.

Edit: this is the sound I hear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTKob3MSDGo

According to the comments, this is somewhat normal among the slim models and apparently is related to the HDD. The maker of the video said that he dealt with the noise for about a year until he changed the HDD and haven't heard the noise since, but most comments agree that it doesn't do any harm.

No it is not normal.

I have had my Slim PS3 for many years. It has never done anything like that.  Something is errooerroneously triggering that chirp.

That is not normal...

ive owned a Fat PS3 and a Slim PS3 and the only time i ever hear a "beep" was when my original Fat PS3 died thanks to the YLOD.

Its not normal

That shouldn't happen

Well seems like everyone agrees that should not happen. I checked other forums and people say that as long as nothing happens to the disk or the game (which is my case), there's nothing to worry about, some say the reason is because the heat is expanding the system and it makes that sound.

I played GTA V for about an hour and didn't hear the sound once, though I heard it a couple of times while playing Dark Souls.

I have my PS3 on a fresh area but I might put like a fan or something to be safer.

My PS3 is the superslim, but I've played for years with a friend with his Slim and that is not normal.
Be sure you are not letting it overheat, play with your PS3 standing vertically.

It should only beep while turning on/off and when it has to restart itself.

What's the difference between putting it horizontally or vertically? shouldn't technically be the same?
