Lol at the 500k Struggle I wish only NINTENDO fans could vote on this. It's sad how some just hate for no reason. This guy will also be the first to say "well with barely anything released and no third parties of coarse it's selling, NINTENDO owners have nothing to buy".

It wont be over 250k, reasons
1. Low install base for the wii u
2. New IP, not mario
3. A shooter (albeit cartoony) rarely does well on nintendo platforms
4. Arsenal
5. Focus on multiplayer( on a nintendo system?), and no voice chat

I think some people are underestimating the sales for this game in Japan.
Squids are quite popular in Japan in video games, anime (as well as other types of anime *ahem*) and other categories of their pop culture.

Third Person shooters also tend to be more popular in Japan in comparison to 1st person.

My estimate for first week:

US 150k
EU 100k
JP 120k
WW 425k

Its going to hit 500k FW in shipment. I'll be happy to remind you in less than 2 months^

 

Also comparing other new ip to Splatoon is kinda... meh! W101/Bayo2/etc dont come close
