Forums - Gaming Discussion - PSP Vita next gen PS4 portable

Just a thought would it be possible to take the PS4 in 5-6 years and make it portable. You would have instant gaming library and everyone would be experienced making games for it.

Now the power consumption is rumored to be around 130 watts while gaming on the PS4 and the only numbers i can find for the Vita are 7-15 watts.

So your looking at having to decrease power consumption by 90%. I don't think shrinking the components would be to hard with solid state (instead of hard drive) and memory cards and digital (instead of blu-ray). The components will also get smaller as they shrink the cpu/gpu and combine other chips.

But is it possible to save that much power consumption? I have my doubts.

So... another portable console? That's exactly one of the main reasons for Vita's failure.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

pretty much this. The hardware is already overdeveloped for what it does.

As is the Vita hardware is plenty powerful for a mobile device. It also already is a portable PS4, you can remote play over wifi and via tethering to your 4G smart phone.

The only things the Vita or mobile PlayStation Platform really needs is 4G and/or cellular service, and a bit more RAM to increase multitasking functionality. This way people are not forced to bring both a Vita and a smartphone everywhere. With a 4G Vita there is no need for a smartphone.

I think we will see Sony revamp the Vita hadware in the next 12 months to take advantage of PlayStation Network better. 4G access to PlayStation Now, Remote Play, PlayStation Vue, PlayStation Video, and PlayStation Music. They will also expand their ooVoo partnership to allow calling, texting, and video chatting to any mobile, or networked device, even if they don't make a phone. They don't have to go after Android and iOS, they just have to build the ultimate moble gaming platform for gamers. Even if they only reach a market of 25 million users, those 25 million dedicated gamers will make them more money through PSN than the 100 million people using Xperia phones.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Because no one can be bothered to develop for it so it just gets indie games, what OP is suggesting doesn't need developer support because it has the entire PS4 library at launch.

OP game sizes will be an issue, most ps4 games are 40GB, I can't imagine a commercial portable launch with 500GB of internal memory whilst being an an affordable range but this is the future we're talking about so maybe. On other mobile platforms there isn't really push for that space though. I think it would actually be better to have a steam portable, more games from more generations.

It wouldn't hurt if they added compatibility to Android-apps and Vita/PSP-games as fallback when stable 4G ain't available.

If it's portable, it won't work.
