Forums - Nintendo Discussion - MEGATON?! Just How Big of a Deal is Ryu (Street Fighter) in SSB4? Thoughts on His Inclusion (if True)?

With all due respect this kind of thinking makes no sense. You are acting as if these systems exist in bubbles, they dont the fact is alot of people are multiplat owners ESPECIALLY Nintendo consoles going by the sales of there recent systems. So Snake Ryu they have there exposure, sales fo the games they are in prove it. The idea that them being in Smash is really going to help them in any meaningful way is laughable, these arent characters from some obscure RTS game. If people want those games they will get the system to play them on or already have said system. I promise most people if the respective game comes to Ninty systems or not.

The most hilarious thing about that line of thinking is that by the time those other companies reep the imaginary benefits of that "free advertizing," Nintendo will have already gotten their sale. How were people exposed to Ryu? By spending extra money on DLC for the Nintendo game they bought for their Nintendo console. At that point, who the hell cares if someone goes out and buys a PS4 for SF5 afterwards? They already own a Wii U/3DS. Nintendo already won. That guy isn't suddenly selling their Wii U/3DS and their copy of Smash because they've somehow "seen the light."

yeah i really dont get where there head is at. THey are so in love with a company they protect its "honor" even when there is nothing to protect

Way bigger than mega man, SF and Mega Man IPs aren't even in the same league.

Pretty sure more Nintendo fans hold Mega Man in a higher regard than Street Fighter...

pretty sure gaming fans in general hold Street Fighter in higher regard than Mega Man, judging by the sales alone. What criteria are you using.

The fact that Street Fighter has been pretty much non-existent on Nintendo consoles since 1994...

SSF4 has a 3ds port so thats not really true unless you mean just home consoles, but evne then so what? stick Ryu on the 3ds version since that had a proper SF game if Ninty fans really would be bothered by his inclusion.

On a side note that whole attitude is detrimental to Ninty, "Ninty fans care about a series more than b series despite the majority of the gaming community thinking differenctly." Forget the Ninty fans they are already sold on the products its everyone eles they have to try to get.

Theres a reason why Mega Man was included in the first place... SSB is all about fan service.

what is that reason? maybe they just wanted him in just to be in. Just like with Ryu now. It is fan service, but its a bit silly for people to be up in arms about Ryu being in the game. Its not like Mega Man has been a big presence on Ninty consoles himself. I mean even in its heyday Street Fighter was far more popular than MegaMan even on SNES.

Mega Man started his life on the NES. Hes one of the Nintendo originals.

It would be cool for another iconic character to come to Smash, but it wouldn't have any more significance than that.

As far as if it is a big deal? No more than any other iconic character that has been added.

thats your opinion and honestly it means little. It did get decent adverstiment, what it was supposed to get the same treatment that the MAIN Street Fighter games get? Or the Marvel Vs Capcom series Marvel being THE brand in this day an age. Tatsunoko which no one in the west knows about and lucky if they eve recongnize G-Force/Gatchaman.  IMHO it was kind of a weird throwaway game. They made there money since it was just an easy translation and not that expensive to make. IMHO Mvs.3 and SSS4 were better but thats just me. Not to mention that it released on a system that isnt really fighting game friendly, in terms of reception and sales. Smash being the sole exception.

Once you start disqualifying my points on the basis of being opinions, you disqualify your points twofold for the same reason. There's no reason your opinion is somehow more valid than mine. You thinking it was a weird throwaway game "honestly means very little," because it wasn't. You thinking MvC3 and SSS4 were better "honestly means very little," because they weren't. It releasing on a system that isn't really fighting game friendly "honestly means little," because that is a complete lie that should have no factor in how it's evertized.

It got terrible advertizement for what it wasn't, a "throwaway fighting game." What it was was the best Capcom fighting game of the last decade. Faster and offering more variety of characters than and of the SS4 variations, and having far more tame mechanics and a more balanced roster than MvC3. Fighting game fans should care more about mechanics, character playstyle variety, balance, and technicality, not character roster, which TvC absolutely destroys SS4, MvC3, and SFxT in. The fact that it wasn't advertized with that in mind is a tragety and a failure on Capcom's part.

People, please, it's not always just about making money. The people at Nintendo and Capcom also have a heart and are also fans of characters/games not developed by them. Lots of them are also gamers to the heart like you and me. Sometimes, they do just things to please the fans (without money making in mind at the first place) and because they are fans themselves, they please themselves as well. Please stop this pessimistic thinking that the game industry is 100% ONLY about making money and more money.
