Pretty much everyone in this thread forgetting Tatsunoko vs Capcom exists explains the games low sales.

No, Capcom's terrible handling of that game, and the fact that 99% of the west has no clue who any Tatsunoko character is, explains the game's low sales.

how did they handle it terribly? It got decent advertisment for what it was and they cant do anything about people not knowing what Tatsunoko is, hell it wasnt even supposed to come west.

I understand Megaman being in Smash because it's iconic status and people really craving for any hope of getting a Megaman game, and Pacman has a lot of games on Nintendo systems (also the iconic value). But I think Ryu isn't going to be the same. Unless Nintendo gets a something VS Capcom or one of the Street Fighter V versions (I'm sure Capcom will find a way to avoid that pesky exclusivity deal), I don't think Nintendo will put the efford for the franchise (Game update, Amiibo...). No more situations like Snake.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'm sure Snakes exclusion from Smash 4 has a lot more to do with the fact that Snake isn't anywhere near as iconic as Sonic, Mega Man, or Pac-Man. Ryu is. If anything, Snake's inclusion in Brawl proves that the only people who think about "free advertizing" that Smash might bring are crazed fans, because that's not why Snake was brought in at all.

Snake was brought in because Kojima begged Sakurai.

I don't think characters are necessarily brought in because of exposure, but I don't think it can be denied that the game does give them that. Characters like Ness, Lucas, Ike, Roy, Shulk, Pit, etc. were largely unheard of until they made it into the game. Of course, that's not necessarily the same case for characters like Snake or Ryu, but I think including them does bring a certain amount of exposure from the Nintendo crowd (which they typically wouldn't get).

With all due respect this kind of thinking makes no sense. You are acting as if these systems exist in bubbles, they dont the fact is alot of people are multiplat owners ESPECIALLY Nintendo consoles going by the sales of there recent systems. So Snake Ryu they have there exposure, sales fo the games they are in prove it. The idea that them being in Smash is really going to help them in any meaningful way is laughable, these arent characters from some obscure RTS game. If people want those games they will get the system to play them on or already have said system. I promise most people if the respective game comes to Ninty systems or not.

what situation with Snake? It wasnt a situation, they asked and they put them in. Its laughable that people think that that hurt Ninty in anyway at all. Brawl still went on to being the best one, who knows if that WASNT becasue Snake was a part of it(i doubt it). Free ads? for what? people keep throwing that around what were they advertising, MGS4 for PS3? Please that game would have sold the same amount whether Snake was in Smash or not? Unless you think somone was in their house thinking "i like this Snake fella, let me spend 400 plus to get the game he is in, NVM that Smash doesnt actually represent the game he is in AT ALL"

Would be sort of weird, but also kind of cool. Back in the days of the SNES when Street Fighter II became such a huge hit it was almost synonymous with Nintendo (to me anyway) and part of the reason you got a SNES (again, for me anyway)

The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.

"For what it was" is the key phrase, because it didn't get decent advertizing for what it was. What it was was the greatest Capcom fighting game of the last decade. What it was advertized as was a weird throw away fighting game that no one would care about. It should have gotten SFIV/MvC3 levels of advertizing.

So yeah, they handled it terribly.

It is a HUGE deal.

It allows for MORE 3RD PARTIES!!!!!!!! And also.......SECONDARY 3RD PARTY CHARACTERS SO MORE SERIES OF SAME COMPANY CAN BE IN SMASH!!!!!! (#BayoforSmash)

furthermore.....it will help streetfighter fans buy Smash. And vica versa. Also.........I smell..........a StreetFighter Game + Nintendo deal going on. :D

The most hilarious thing about that line of thinking is that by the time those other companies reep the imaginary benefits of that "free advertizing," Nintendo will have already gotten their sale. How were people exposed to Ryu? By spending extra money on DLC for the Nintendo game they bought for their Nintendo console. At that point, who the hell cares if someone goes out and buys a PS4 for SF5 afterwards? They already own a Wii U/3DS. Nintendo already won. That guy isn't suddenly selling their Wii U/3DS and their copy of Smash because they've somehow "seen the light."

I think it would be really cool to see another iconic video game character in Smash. I'm not sure how "huge" it would be though considering if there's someone who doesn't care about Smash out there, I doubt just adding Ryu is going to automatically make them care. But it would be huge for fans of Street Fighter or Smash fans in general.

good point, i might add Nintendo profits how much with Ryu? Especially sice he would be a newcomer...

$4 for WiiU or 3DS / $5 for Bundle

By Years end, 4mil SSBU copies and 7mil SSB3DS Minimum. Say pessimistic prediction and only 10-15% buy DLC.

300k buy him for 3DS and another 300k for WiiU (600k x $4) and 400k people buy him bundled (400k x $5).

Thats a whopping $4.4mil on 1 character thats pessimistic prediction with at least 5 DLC character Total!

Dont think it does matter when Nintendo is Collecting :p
