Forums - Sales Discussion - 50% Marketshare- Its Coming.

Not a big deal at all in my books, because like a few other ppl have said, since in the handheld market every nintendo handheld gets to that market share all the time. For a console its nice saying that, but i also feel its very bad for the industry and the reason is because when u have a home console doing that well, it gives the manufactor of that said console a ego thinking they cant do any wrong. Which is what happened to sony with the ps3 as a example and in some part nintendo with the wiiu.
Competition is great for the consumers , giving us more deals, more games and such. But when the competition level is not close then that is when red flags should be going off in everyone's minds.
I know alot of playstation fans/sony fans will jump for joy and cheer like crazy when this does happen and all, but for a all-around gamer who cherishes all on all systems, is not good news at all, cause of the reason i listed above.
Of course this is all my opinion, but for someone who has been gaming since i was 4 and i am now 38, and having played games on almost every system ever made, i think i have a logical way of looking for competition , then wanting a blood bath.

Well, VGC is well behind with the numbers. It might be possible that it is already at 50% right now. But it will definitely be over 50% by the time Batman is released.
As far as for ramifications, nothing will change. Except perhaps forcing Microsoft to absorb more losses and to give away more blockbuster games for free.

It really is a win win situation for Xbox fans. The more Sony dominates,  the better the holiday Xbox deals.

either Tomb Raider, Halo or Gears bundle for 299 on Black Friday seems likely.  And honestly who cares iif Xbox One is profitable.  Microsoft doesn't.

Technically, the PS4 has the 2nd highest console marketshare of all time already, So what exactly are the ramifications of going 50% when the number one spot of all time is unattainable.

PS2 days coming back

And let's face it, we are all acutely aware the reasons people would bring up handhelds in this thread.

Yeah.

What is funny is that the people who do it kinda reinforce the whole idea behind 50% marketshare being important. Just look at the platforms tha have achieved it.

NES
SNES(?)
PlayStation
PlayStation 2
Gameboy
Gameboy Advance
Nintendo DS
Nintendo 3DS

Each of these platforms have dominated the industry, in either the handheld or homeconsole markets in terms of sales and more important, in terms of software support. The PS4 breaking the 50% barrier is expected at this point, so we wont see much fanfare, but it does give a sign of a bright and postivie future for the platform.

yep.

and while the Wii never made it many felt the Wii was at its peak around that time (and it was). With the PS4 many feel its best days are ahead (when it hits that 299 price barrier for many people it will sell millions more)

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

I don't think anything will change. The PS4 was destined to get all games before it launched already, and you can't go up from there. Microsoft will still be able to buy timed exclusivity, even after the PS4 has reached 55%. Perhaps Sony will make even fewer games than they already do, because it's not like they will have to make an effort.

Dont agree. They have to compete with PC more and more so AAA exclusives are one of the best reasons to buy a weaker console over PC

Why on earth are you now suddenly claiming that consoles need to compete with PC's in terms of AAA games?, that makes no sense because you guys all the time say that PC's and consoles aren't the same and don't need to be lumped in together and now suddenly you're doing just that.

Could you stop being hypocritial for just a moment to realise how silly that sounds.

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

At this rate it is going, PS4 will have more exclusives. Japanese developers will have more confidence and we'll have more western releases I think. It is like PS2 all over again. Believe it.

As a warning, saying someone is being hypocritical without any proof of something that individual said to make him hypocritical is against the "don't shoot the messenger" rule and is seen in the same vein as "well you just think that because you're a ____ fan".   Debate the statement, not the individual.
