The PS4 is 300k ish from a 50% marketshare. It will reach no later than June NDP (the batman deal will put it over if it is not already over).  The Wii got very close to this theshold back in 2008 but it never reached it.

No console has reached this milestone since the PS2. It is a big deal.

What ramifications will it have? The only one that I am willing to bet on is that MS wont be able to buy exclusivity on anything much longer the cost will be just too high.

Anyways when will PS4 hit 50%. I think June NDP. I think it will fall just short after April, and in May XB1  with Witcher 3 marketing and bundles will just barely hold it off. I think Batman PS4 marketing in June will push it over.

It's a well deserved milestone, if and when it's reached. PS4 is the next PS2, imo.

Well, VGC is well behind with the numbers. It might be possible that it is already at 50% right now. But it will definitely be over 50% by the time Batman is released.
As far as for ramifications, nothing will change. Except perhaps forcing Microsoft to absorb more losses and to give away more blockbuster games for free.

Isn't 50% marketshare something more usual than people think? The NES sold more than 60 million units compared to the 18-19 million units the Sega M.System and the Atari 7200 combined, the PS1 sold 100 millions compared to the +30 millions of N64 and +9 millions of Sega Saturn, the PS2 sold more than the GC,XBox, Dreamcast and GameBoy Advanced COMBINED, and in every handheld gen Nintendo had almost a solid control of the market. Gens like the 4th and the 7th are the exception, not the norm.

Well, every Nintendo handheld ever had 50% and more! So it's not so big of a deal.

Well, It managed to do the minimal amount of bad choices unlike the other two, plus Its got some quality games on it, so Its not a surprise that its going to reach 50%.

But, I don't think It is going to come close to the PS2. People who didn't even play games bought it, because It was effectively a PC, DVD player and more. I reckon It will reach about 100m, 115m max.

Yeah, Nintendo really haven't had any handheld competition since maybe the PSP. I only own a VITA for this gen, because i don't have very much time for handheld gaming, though if i did, i'd get a 3DS for sure.
