Forums - PC Discussion - How expensive are PC games vs console games in your country?

In your country PC games are:

Cheaper than current-gen console games 43 74.14%

Equally priced 9 15.52%

More expensive than current-gen console games 6 10.34%

Total:58

I am preparing myself for the jump to next gen, so far it was clear to me that I'm gonna pick up a PS4 - easy choice - and a Wii U for Ninty games. But every time I see PS4 games in stores or on PSN sales I see that they are sold at a ridiculous price!! 70 Euro is the norm! That is way too much for me to tell the truth, especially in the era of dlcs, season passes, etc. I've compared these prices with the prices of PC games and... Dayum!! The difference is massive. At this point I think I'm gonna go with a $1000 PC + Wii U and still save money this gen!

For the sake of this topic I'm gonna stick to Poland's currency to give the exact prices, but so that you know 1 Euro is 4 zł, while $1 is 3.77 zł, so $60 is 226.50 zł, while 60 Euro is 241 zł. The prices are like this:

Battlefield Hardline:
PS4 in Media Markt - 229 zł
PS4 on PSN - 279 zł
PC in Media Markt - 139 zł

Mortal Kombat X:
PS4 in MM - 259 zł
PS4 on PSN - 289
PC in MM - 139 zł

Dragon Age Inquisition:
PS4 in MM - 159 zł
PS4 on PSN - 289 zł
PC in MM - 109 zł

Dying Light:
PS4 in MM - 219 zł
PS4 on PSN - 289 zł (currently on sale for 188 zł)
PC in MM - 119 zł

Is it the same in your coutries? Are the prices so different between PC and consoles? Am I crazy to think that I should screw both PS4 and Xbone, get a PC, save massive cash on games and enjoy much, much better graphics? At this point I'm leaning heavily towards a PC + Wii U combo. The only thing that I'd be missing out on would be Trophies, but that really isn't enough to offset all that!

BTW. Which gamepad works best on a PC?

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

You are right. I was going to get a ps4 and ended up with the Wii U and PC combo. It's perfect. Use humble bundle for steam PC games. You can get like crusader kings 2 and a pile of other great games for as little as $1 + your selected donation to charity. The bundles change regularly.

Console games are mostly $65-$70 at launch
PC games range from $45-$70 at launch but I mostly buy them at $50-$60 at launch due to pre-order discounts

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

So you're saying that the difference in price is very small in Canada? Cause over here it's 40%-50% of the day 1 price, which really makes a huge difference! I mean, MKX and BF:H launched for $36.80 and that is the norm for PC games in Poland, not a special price or a discount. Is it different than in other places?

Well it is a little more more higher when u add the tax but it is certainly not as big as where you are at. But either ways, I do stick to PC gaming given the option cause cheaper price + free online

Steam is useful when you want to get discount, but earlier price is the same. But i prefer hard copy over soft-copy that's why i am preferring console over steam, except games with a lot of Mod, i will buy second time on PC if i have the spec to run the games. and my Internet is slow, that's why both have their advantage.

Here in Brazil, Steam games are even cheaper than in the U.S., which is pretty ironic considering the fact that everything gaming related costs an arm and a leg to buy around here =P

Yeah, digital prices are screwed up here. It's really annoying.

yeah digital prices seem to be kinda fucked up when we pair notes together, I think I remember TB talking about digital pricing a few months back. Digital pricing at this point should technically be cheaper thjan physical due to the lack of materials that physical media requires and the labour cost and all that.

They also need to sort out digital pricing for when a game like GTA V comes much later on, apart from the graphical bump and a video editor from the last game being thrown in, nothing of GTA V is actually changed and asking for the same full digital price from nearly 2 years ago is a tad fucked up, at least in my eyes.

The other important factor into this is that we don't actually own our digital titles, on the clients we are merely buying the license to use them and agreeing to the client/company's ToS, without those two we don't get to play the games, at least on GoG you can buy the game and it won't be attached to a client but still have to download it from their servers. I like buying digital because it saves me physical space and hassle of installing through many disks (looking at you physical 7 disk GTA V and 8 disk WoW), the only downside is I don't actually feel like I own the games and the lack of a physical copy tends to take away that feeling of ownership, on the bright side I can share my games to others on steam via family share, but even still if I get banned I lose access to my games, same thing kinda happens with consoles but not that much that it would knee cap you.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Prices between retail PC games and console games aren't too diferent from my experience.

However, Steam has a lot of discounts, and you can even save a little money when your preorder certain games. Definitely use Steam when gaming on PC.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
