When sales start declining, that same decline will take more time for the console to be "dead" to the market, if the starting point is up there.
When your starting point for decline is Wii U like levels, then the decline will happen rapidly.

If Wii U's plateau is still dangerously low, then yes, the growth needs to be substantial for the console to have a better chance of lasting in the market more time.

And how well did a rapid growth work for Wii?  You can't proclaim that rapid growth is the only way to prevent a rapid decline.

Can't you just be happy it's at least up YoY without some arbitrary 'substantial' value along with it?  It's up.  It's growing.  Given everything the system has been up against, it's damn near a miracle to be up at all.

MP10, nice.

Crossing my fingers for Splatoon, keep that WiiU up YoY...

Mario Kart boost didn't really happen until June due to it only being 2 days of May NPD and the boost for the most part had ended by July when it went back down to the 50-90k baseline that Wii U had from Jan-Oct, excluding June. Wii U only needs to average 72k/month to be up going into the holidays.

I'm not particularly worried about Wii U being down YoY. I'm fairly certain it will only happen in that period when MK8 launched and it will go up afterwards once the stream of releases hits. I just hope Nintendo has some sort of big seller for the holidays. An Animal Crossing would be perfect.

This, we know it'll be up YoY in Japan if SMTxFE hits on time even though its been doing badly, I suspect after XCX it'll be on an upward trend over there, Its up YoY in both US and Europe so it should be able to keep up. I'm trusting nintendo to do the smart thing an announce the splatoon bundle in a splatoon only direct 2-3 weeks before the game launches, that way they wont kill momentum they currently have and they give the bundle enough time to reach the general public.

Idk if we will get some huge megaton announced at E3 and released this holiday, but I'm sure we will get at least 1 unannounced game revealed and released this year, maybe something along the lines of Captain Toad like we had last year.

Right now the major exclusives set for the 2nd half of the year include Yoshi's Woolly World, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Mario Maker, Fatal Frame V, Devil's Third & Star Fox. I could see the lineup looking something like this

August-Xenoblade Chronicles X

September-Mario Maker+$50 price cut

October-Fatal Frame V+Yoshi's Woolly World

November-Star Fox+Devil's Third

December-unannounced title

If Wii U's plateau is still dangerously low, then yes, the growth needs to be substantial for the console to have a better chance of lasting in the market more time.

What i was also trying to point out is that the actual low growth happened with pratically all of Nintendo's systems sellers: Mario 2D, Mario 3D, Mario Kart and Smash. The only one missing is Zelda.
If with all that Wii U can't take off, then it's future isn't pretty.

I see another boost happening this summer with Splatoon so with 20 percent already happening and add another 20-30 percent on top of that during the summer, that's pretty damn good when 3rd Parties through a hissing fit and bounced.

A boost might happen, sure.
But the question is: will it just lift sales for a couple of weeks or will it lift Wii U sales on the medium to long term?
Splatoon has potential to lift sales, but only in the short term, in my opinion.

But i am happy that things are better now than in 2014 and 2013, aswell.
But i can't just look at that and ignore the fact that Wii U sales were low to begin with and are still low for it's own good. Do you really think Nintendo ignores this?

You bring up a good point with Wii and does go in line with what i said on how "well" Nintendo supports it's consoles after the system sellers are out.
The fall we saw during the last two years of Wii could have been avoided or at least minimized but Nintendo stopped supporting the console with system sellers or even non-system sellers. You basically had what? Zelda SS, MP 9 and some other game to try and lift sales or sustain the fall.
And Wii still had a lot of support from 3rd parties.

Wii U will see Nintendo "bail out" on the console in preparation for next gen, with barely any games from 3rd parties to try and sustain the natural fall of a aging console.

At least Wii had room for falling in sales. Wii U doesn't have that luxury because sales haven't - and most likely won't - gone up enough. And with the exception of Zelda, it used it's system sellers.
