I have a different way of looking at this. I've been playing through several older PS1 games lately, which I remembered from my playthroughs as having some pretty damn good graphics. But now when I play them I can't help but realize how lacking the graphics and character models are by today's standards. For example, Metal Gear Solid

Yeah I tried playing it recently. Hasn't aged well, like a lot of games from it's day. Golden eye same story. That gen definately aged the worse. SNES games for example hold up a lot better today, I think, than most ps1/n64 games.

Sprits are like animated shows. The artist style is different. But everything is done the same. And never ages. Low polygons age. Because people aren't made of boxes. Except Snake :P.

Runescape and WoW. But I miss those few years when they were amazing to me

Yeah this comes to mind, I can never seem to get back into those games.

Final Fantasy X. The first time I played it I was like oh wow this game it's amazing, it's the best game I've ever played. Then I replayed it 1 year and a few moths later and it wasn't as great as I remembered, the linearity was the thing that bothered me the most but I also noticed some problems with the lip-syncing and other things...

I had a similar experience with Final Fantasy X: it just feels stale today; however FFVI through IX keep aging like fine wine.

sadly, pokemon. lost interest in this franchise since xy. its still a great series, but i HATE Gamefreak by making them more n more easier. i know its all about online battle now, but i am not that kind of guy that will invest several hours just to breed pokemon.. guess its just not my type of game

sry for my bad english - it is not my 1st language

I remember playing Halo CE  and thinking it was the best game ever, now I played it recently and it's alright

Mario Kart 64.. I can hardly enjoy the game nowadays!

...... I'm sorry but what? Mario kart 64 is even more fun now than it was back then for me.

I have to agree with AZWification, playing MK64 after the masterpieces that were DS,Wii,7 and especially 8 is painful for me. I didn't play it for an exceptional amount of time when I was younger, probably under 20 hours total so that may be the factor.

Hmm... i recently got Jet set radio for the Vita. I had played the dreamcast version and the Xbox sequal... and after playing a while i recalled why i never finished the original. The game and the music was cool but the time limit + no indication of where the red arrows you were missing were or how to get there made me realise the game was incredibly flawed in design. I guess it was designed as an arcade game.
JSR Future was alot better. I guess my good memories of Future got mixed with the original and it really isnt the same.

I played JSR on Dreamcast, Xbox 360, and Vita--loved it every time.  Just use the map and it tells you where the missing cans are.  Didn't realize it until my second playthrough on Dreamcast.  But it's your oponion.  I need to get my hands on JSRF!  Xbox exclusivity killed it for me.  I found out it was backwards compatible with the 360 so I gotta order it one day soon.

I got an Ouya and it has some great emulators on it. I replayed portions of Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse, SMB All-Stars, Starfox, Stunt Race FX, and a dozen N64 games and pretty much nothing held up. We say games have gotten worse but I think a lot of advancements were taken for granted.

Oh, and MGS4. I was actually about to make a thread about how poorly the game has aged when I stumbled across this one. As a guy that followed the series across all consoles since the NES (only missed MSX exclusive MGS2--it was too dated when it came with MGS3) I didn't like MGS4 as much in 2008 and it absolutely disgusts me, now. What were we thinking?

I'm very glad for you, but that's clearly not the case for me.. I can't stand the way the game controls and feels!

PS1 Resident Evil games.
They were so creepy and I did liked playing them alone as a kid and loved that feeling that it gave me, as if I was actually risking something and was brave to surpass it xD

When RE6 was about to launch a friend and I did a RE2 and 3 replay as a warm up and damn it was not even close to the experience I had before.
Graphics evolved a lot, I'm was not a kid anymore, it was kinda sad.
It was still nice, though.

I don't understand some opinions like this - is it just some of you have no patience anymore? the original Resident Evil (especially its remakes with updated graphics) is perfectly playable today

older NES , N64, even Playstation games- many are still quite playable and diggable. I'm surprised so many people seem to let graphics effect their enjoyment. especially for the classics the gameplay was the priority from the get-go (sort of due to the fact that graphics COULDN'T be that good) so a lot of the more simple games aged well

hilarious to see a comment or too about NES games not again well or being fun anymore when that is arguably the generation (along with the SNES) that aged the best due to the simplicity of game mechanics (very replayable in terms of core gameplay and getting 'into it')
