Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Voice Chat Dropped from Splatoon Over Toxicity Concerns

Get a party chat system for friends Nintendo!

I understand that there is toxic people out there but this is an overreaction. It won't stop parents from buying it for their children. Much like it won't stop them from buying gta or cod.

Lame excuse. Just add mute option or enable the ability to talk only with friends. Problem solved.

Sometimes these people speak without even thinking. It's laughable.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Indeed. I doubt that this move will stop people from buying the game, but it just suggests again that Nintendo aren't yet ready to fully embrace the online world.

Actually you'd be surprised at the amount of people I've seen on facebook that have said they're boycotting this game now and want it to crash and burn, just because it doesn't have voice chat. Hell even on WIi U themed forums as well, its pretty sad that these people would do that over voice chat

Voice chat is pretty essential in almost every online game, and this is 2015 already

And I thought wii U owners were so mature and stuff. The community must be really toxic for them to remove voice chat all together, what a shame.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Wow. I can't believe they're still doing this outdated online stuff. I have now lost the only bit of interest I had in this game. How are you suppose to communicate with your friends online without voice or at least keyboard inputs?

It's funny how inconsistent Nintendo is with communication in their games. You have games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing where you can freely talk with randoms, then Mario Kart and Smash Bros. only allowing friend chat, and finally Luigi's Mansion and Splatoon where you can't communicate at all. Make up your mind!

I guess real life Pokemon/Animal Crossing friends and strangers are nicer and safer for kids than a shooting game that require more complex controls

Its funny though, because kids are actively stepping away from those types of games. It's not the 90's anymore. Half the reason why so many kids had Nintendo was because of their parents or because of massive commercialism on the TV in the 80's and 90's. Today kids have more of an active voice with their purchasing power and parents are no longer holding them back because of rules. Back then parents were more stringent.

Skype or Team Speak.

Wii U doesn't have Skype functionality ingame to my knowledge (If it does, do tell) And also what if I wanted to talk with strangers on my team to enjoy the game better.  How come games have had online voice chat and messaging for literally decades and Nintendo can't even try to add it due to making the game "too toxic".  Its decisions like this that are killing nintendo worst than Sony or Xbox ever could.
