Forums - General Discussion - What happened to Youtube?

I really hate what Youtube's turned into, it's a hive of talentless ad revenue exploiting hacks and self important pricks who really need to fuck off.

The majority of vlogs are the same, some happy-clappy ukulele music playing in the background as two charisma-less fucks read Twitter questions and shit. There's the odd sketch that'll be as funny as finding a lump on your baws. Just about every prank channel is a rip-off of Vitalyzdtv and LAHWF with their "it's a prank, bro" and "how to pick up wheelchair-bound midget lepers" schtick.

From Totalbiscuit to ReviewTechUSA and all the reruns inbetween, I really don't understand why people pay any attention to "reviewers" on there either. They're not time-tested big brand companies, intellectual geniuses or actual critics, they're arrogant fucks with opinions and Youtube channels. There's no comedic value either, they come off as snobbish shitebags who'd be working in ASDA or Walmart if it wasn't for Youtube.

Where's the joy in watching some unfunny prat playing a game when you could do it yourself? Shouldn't you judge whether or not you're going to buy something from trailers and actual reviews? Or do people honestly need PewDiePie's seal of approval before they buy a game? There's no surprise, you know were to go and what to do, it wastes it. If anything seeing how a game's story plays out would be enough to put me off buying it. I mean, what's the point, you know how it ends.

If there's a channel that you don't like, just ignore them. I don't like PewDiePie, so I'm not subbed to him, and I have no idea what's going on with him, since I don't care.

Yeah, I'll admit that there's a sea of mediocre and bland channels on YouTube today, and I'll admit that YouTube overall has gone a bit downhill since its debut, but there are still some great, underrated YouTube channels out there.

You just gotta figure out what interests you, look past the featured and popular channels that don't impress you, and find the channels that do provide content that you can genuinely enjoy.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I guess the easy solution is NOT to use YouTube? Don't really watch any gamer channels because I like to actually PLAY games, not watch lets plays. I use YouTube for informative, scientific channels such as VSauce, Scishow and Minutephysics.

I've been using Youtube for years, I'm not stopping now. I'm fed up with talentless hacks all doing the same thing. Whenever someone gets popular doing something new there's an army of watered down clones and rip-offs around the corner. Everyone's a LAHWF or an AVGN or a vlogger.

I'm not a fan of let's play with the over dramatic commentators and such... hence why I don't use YouTube often.

Just go watch sections you enjoy and avoid things you dislike, basically. I like game OSTs and game trailers so I just watch that and avoid the things I dislike.

Of course, it was bliss.

it's still ad-free if you own a vita....and why it's now shutting down in 11 days :( -_-

Someone sounds jealous.

Well if it's not for you then it's not for you but don't pretend that they're instantly less worth than any guy who runs a "professional" gaming website. The ones I follow in particular have more integrity and wit in their pinky than any shite from IGN and consorts. A website doesn't make you professional, intelligence, experience and integrity does.

The entertainment does not come from watching the games, it comes from the commentary. You're basically saying that people shouldn't watch the superbowl and instead stand on the field themselves if they like football so much. I mean what idiot would want to watch other people do the stuff they like for them.

I'm not jealous, just annoyed at these stooges and confused with the people who listen to them. I never mentioned IGN, but I'd take what they have to say over a smug scumbag who's only out to make a name for himself by being a loud and outspoken dick any day.

So, who're the ones you follow?
