Forums - Gaming Discussion - lego dimension announced, lego enters the NFC figures business.

I grew up in the 80s/early 90s, man, the zenith of the action figure craze.

He-Man, Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats, Ghostbusters, Ninja Turtles ... aw yeah.

O-Ok then..

Is this the new thing now then?

Yep and it makes sense

1. Kids love toys, always have and always will

2. Kids love video games, always have and always will

Might as well make toys that interact with video games.

I never doubted the concept, but I don't want my local game stores to be completely filled with figurines :/

I'm guessing WWE is probably going to happen at some point.

Maybe a EA based sports line too -- athletes like Tom Brady, LeBron James, Rafael Nadal, Sidney Crosby, etc.

I could see that too.

Ya that's what I was thinking, kids have always been bat shit crazy about action figures, go further into the 90/00's and u have Power Rangers, Beast Wars, Pokemon, Digimon, Medabots, DragonBall Z, BeetleBorgs, Beyblade, etc. Along with those series u listed that have pretty much all been rebooted a few times over the last 30 years and Star Wars, Lego.

Kids have always and always will be crazy about toys, making them interact with video games doesn't really change anything.

Yay!!!! Gandalf and a Wii U version included.

I wonder who is next to join the party??? Maybe........Google......with thier......Angry Birds line lol.

It does open the question though should Nintendo maybe consider non-Nintendo IP based amiibo.

Like WWE or sports characters as I mentioned above might not warrant their own toy line (or would they?) but could fit into one of these pre-existing ones.

Well we already have Pac-Man, Mega Man and Sonic Amiibo, I know they are all in Smash Bros but still non-Nintendo IP. I could see Nintendo down the line working with 3rd parties for Amiibo if it makes sense.

Could Monster Hunter or Youkai Watch get Amiibo figures or cards? I could see it happening.

I can see this working if Lego ships a NFC figurine with every regular set of Lego they sell. If you buy a Jurassic Park set, you get a T-Rex figurine, if you buy a vikings set, you get a viking figurine...

You know it deserves the GOTY.
